Scientist Brilliantly Answers The Question "What Is The Evolutionary Purpose Of Menstruation?"

by Elana

It wouldn't surprise me if at some point every person on the planet who has a uterus thought at least once, "why the hell do we menstruate?" Periods, menstruation, satan's waterfall, aunt flow, whatever you call it, it's not the most fun thing that a great portion of people experience on a regular, monthly basis.

Even worse, some people get it irregularly, some people have diseases and disorders coincide with it, and some people delight in it. (Okay, that last bit was a little humor for ya.)

Still, for all anyone does or does not understand about how menstruation works, it should come as no surprise that one person turned to Quora to ask why we get periods, or at least the evolutionary purpose. Surely, there's more to it than even the best of us understand?

"What is the evolutionary benefit or purpose of having periods?"
