Grandparents Get Left Behind Because Grandma Feels She Could Dictate Who Can Drive Her Granddaughter's New Car
Individuals spend a great deal of money on trucks and cars. In actuality, transportation expenses, including fuel and car payments, account for more than 15% of the entire budget of an average household.
This places it ahead of incidentals like food, education, and retirement savings, as the second-biggest expense after housing. The cost of the purchase might be daunting, particularly for younger, first-time purchasers who typically have less saved up and less established credit histories.
Due to the fact that costs are so high, consumers must also pay special attention to their spending plan. Amidst all these, the narrator of today's story still managed to take out a loan and get a car.
The OP will be paying for it for a few years. The car she got is not anything fancy, but it was fairly expensive for her.
Also, the OP mentioned that she doesn't want to lend it to anyone. It happened that the OP lives very close to her grandparents, and her birthday was coming up.
They were supposed to celebrate OP's birthday at her parents' house, which was two hours away. The deal was that the OP would pick up her grandparents, drive them to her parents, and then take them home.
This is because they don't have a car, and OP's grandma has problems walking, so public transport is not an option. Well, there was a twist to the events, and you can read all about it below.
The OP writes

The OP just got a loan to get a new car

The OP did say she would leave without them

The OP doesn't think she's obligated to lend her car to anybody

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the a-hole:
I might be an ahole because I could have let my grandpa drive and not make drama out of it.
And the comments from other Redditors roll in...

She should have told the OP prior

Grandma doesn't know how to drive

Something might be wrong

The OP left this edits behind as well
EDIT: My grandpa has a valid driving license. He got it renewed after his last eye surgery.
EDIT 2: Insurance in my country is on the car not the person driving it, so it would not be a liability, but had he gotten in an accident my insurance would go up and I would lose my bonus
Also, I have an impeccable driving record, not a single car accident, hell, not even a parking ticket. Also, it was not exactly a short trip - my parents live about 2 hours away
Happy belated birthday

The OP's not living in the US

The need to respect the OP

They could have taken a cab

Many Redditors admitted that OP's grandma was acting a little controlling and it appears that her mother is moving in the same direction too. That action could create an awful circumstance where the OP might end up footing the bill for an inoperable car that her grandpa destroyed because her nana insisted on it.
You don't have to cave into unreasonable requests all in the name of "keeping the peace." Eventually, the OP was declared not the AH.
