Redditor Insists That His GF Meets His Family For The First Time At A Christmas Dinner Right After Her Hamster Died
Emotions are sometimes hard to control, no matter how much we try. For instance, when a loved one or pet passes away, feeling sad and teary are normal feelings that we all go through at that stage.

In our emotional state, we like to be surrounded by people we love because they usually know us best and know exactly how to make us feel better. Most people rely on their life partners to fulfill that role and be at their side during a difficult period, but when they fail to do so or have the opposite effect, it only makes the situation worse.
A Redditor who later deleted his account made a post on the r/AmItheA**hole subReddit where he explained how he insisted that his girlfriend comes along to a Christmas dinner right after her pet hamster died. The user didn't feel like the hamster's death was a good enough excuse to skip a Christmas dinner - where his girlfriend was to meet his extended family for the first time.
The r/AmItheA**hole community had a lot of different reactions to the user's post. Scroll down to check out the full Reddit post, and scroll a little further to read the comments from the original post.
Here's the original post by a Reddit user who later deleted his account:
OP's GF was grieving over the death of her hamster and cried all day.
Many things reminded the GF of her hamster, which made her even sadder.
OP doesn't believe that grieving over a pet hamster is a good enough excuse to bail out on a Christmas dinner.
OP's GF hated that she was "forced" into that situation.
OP was unsure about how he handled the situation, so he decided to consult with the Reddit community.
OP thinks he might be the a-hole in this scenario for the following reason:
Here's how the Reddit community reacted to the user's situation:
Hamsters can live much longer than that.
Even in the best conditions, they still live for 2-3 years.
The GF was not in the proper mindset to meet OP's family.
OP acted out of selfishness and ignored his GF's feelings.
"Heck, I randomly cried for a month when my favorite chicken died."
Pets are equally important, no matter how small they are.
This could be an eye-opener for the girlfriend.
The hamster was probably just hibernating.
"Clearly you didn't understand how attached she was to her pet..."
You have to deal with pet loss grief the best way you can.
"It's a bit over the top."
This user brought up the hamster hibernation theory once again.
Domestic hamsters don't hibernate.
Well, this was an interesting story. OP owes his girlfriend an apology for behaving the way he did.
He completely ignored her feelings and pretty much "forced" her into a situation she wanted to avoid entirely. If you enjoyed reading this, make sure to share it with your friends and check out similar content on our platform.
