Parenthood is a journey that changes everyone, no doubt about it, but those changes should be mostly positive. Usually, a parent evolves with their child into a better, more responsible, and mature person.

But as you can guess, some parents become crankier and displeased about all sorts of little things. A Reddit user recently got into an unpleasant situation with her cousin, a parent, and wondered if her cousin was overreacting or if she didn't get her.

The OP had planned a special family BBQ gathering for the weekend. She meticulously prepared for the event, ensuring there was plenty of food for all expected guests.

The mid-30s cousin, however, initially told her she couldn't attend. But she changed her mind, and just 2 hours before the event, she informed them she'd join with her husband and their 1.5-year-old baby.

Despite the short notice, the OP was confident in accommodating them because she already had plenty of food. As the BBQ ensued, the responsibility of grilling for the 24 attendees fell squarely on the OP and her husband.

They were mainly outdoors, preparing the grill under rainy conditions, while the majority of guests were indoors. However, the cousin and her husband frequently expressed concerns over the food's saltiness.

The atmosphere became particularly tense when the OP served her premium dish - wagyu tomahawks. The cousin was upset that there were no unseasoned options for her baby.

The OP explained that they had earlier prepared everything and proposed a solution of washing the meat to lessen its saltiness. But her cousin declined, and the cousin's husband suggested the OP should go to buy a fresh, unseasoned steak for their child.

The OP's husband refused, feeling the absurdity of such a request. Reflecting on the day, the OP mused about the drastic change in their cousin's behavior post-parenthood and pondered whether such changes are a general phenomenon among all new parents.

Considering the fact that the OP's cousin announced her arrival just two hours before the event, there was no way for the OP to prepare them separate meals. They should have brought the baby food with them or asked the OP for something else.

Anyway, their request to leave the guests and the event to buy them unseasoned meat was way too much selfish.
