When phones were invented, it revolutionized the world, and caused a slight a problem for women; how to avoid giving their number to creepy guys. I can almost imagine a scenario where Alexander Bell's granddaughter is giving him a hard time about his invention: "Now you get this jerk off my back."

Well, back then, you could just give a false phone number, but now the guy doesn't have to go to his house to find out the number is wrong. He can call you right there in front of you, just to check it out.

That's a kind of problem Bell's granddaughter didn't have… Women today have to be more inventive to get read of those guys who just won't leave without the number. A fake voicemail account might be a solution to their problems, according to the Tumblr user daree-to-dream.

Her post essentially describes how to set up a fake voicemail account with a false number, greeting, and name. It says:

“Every girl has had the experience where a creepy guy asks for our number and we don’t want to give it to him, but we also don’t want to get gutted in a back alley. “Give him a fake number!” I hear you call, okay and then he says “okay let me call you real quick!” Because they are learning. “Give them your number and then block them!” Okay and then they can plug it into something like Spokeo, pay $10 and know everything about you. So what do you do?

“First pick a fake name, I use Jessica, then download the Google Voice app, hook it up to your email, pick a number, and set up a fake greeting with your fake name. You can set it up to ring your actual phone like a normal text or call and they don’t have real info on you. Go forth and don’t get murdered ladies!”

A lot of people in the Imgur comments appeared somewhat shocked that anyone would go to so much trouble to avoid giving their number, or that women are contemplating about being murdered by random guys at all.

Some guys said that if you like someone, you get his phone number and you text him if you want to. Women said that you can connect that Google number to a dummy Gmail account.
