Father Gets Ripped Online For Telling His Daughter She Can't Introduce Her African American Boyfriend To Her Grandparents
What would you do if your father forbid you from introducing your significant other to the rest of your family because of their race? Well, that's exactly what happened to Anna when she began dating her boyfriend, Jamal.
You see, Jamal is African American, and although Anna's father claims to have "absolutely no problem with interracial relationships," his recent Reddit post suggests otherwise. The man posted the story in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit.
He explained that his daughter, Anna, is in a happy relationship with Jamal, but that she is "rather naive" about the community they live in. The OP said that although her friends are happy about her relationship, many people had "expressed their concern" about it.
The father said (again) that he doesn't have a problem with mixed relationships but that he is very aware that many others do. The OP said his parents were planning a trip to visit the family, and Anna was excited to introduce Jamal to her grandparents.
But the Redditor forbids his daughter from doing so. He says he has no problem with Jamal, but he does not doubt that his parents will.
The OP explained that his parents would not forget something like this and might even go as far as to cut their granddaughter off entirely.
Naturally, Anna was devastated by her father's reaction. She told him he is racist and doesn't care about her happiness.
The OP says he is just trying to protect Anna from the reaction his parents will have to Jamal. He says they would be furious with him (OP) and Anna both.
Since the disagreement, Anna has been staying with Jamal and refuses to speak with her father. Anna's mother is standing by her husband, but others have told the Redditor that he needs to apologize to his daughter.
So, he decided to turn to the Reddit community for advice. Keep scrolling to find out what they had to say.

Here's how people reacted.

"YTA."

"Start protecting your daughter."

Yep, YTA.

Find a "better community."

"Your daughter has nothing to hide and neither do you."

Well, maybe hide the parents.

It's all about the inheritance.

"This isn't about your parents, it's about your insecurity."

"He is confident the relationship will end soon."

"Place of love?"

"He just assumes and hopes it will end soon."

"Your daughter deserves a better father."

YTA "for many reasons."

"She is better off."

Stand up to your parents!

"What if this is the man she marries?"

"You should be standing up for your daughter."

What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP is just trying to protect his daughter, or are his reasons selfish?
Surely the happiness of OP's daughter should be the most important thing and not the racist opinions of her grandparents. It's such a shame that in 2022 there are still people with such narrow minds.
