Man Repairs Lawn After Mother-In-Law Destroyed It, Wife Takes Her Mother's Side
Playgrounds should be treated quite seriously as it is used by kids. Children nowadays undoubtedly have their favorite playgrounds, just like we all did when we were kids.
It's our duty as adults in this situation to make playgrounds that are enjoyable and visually appealing for the future generation. We also want to provide kids with materials that are secure, long-lasting, and require little upkeep as adults.
Children enjoy running and jumping around, but because their motor skills and coordination are still developing, they are more likely to slip and fall. In this situation, tarmac and concrete don't provide any soft landing options; therefore, many grazed limbs and tears will unavoidably result.
Natural grass is commonly used in playgrounds because it is soft and secure for kids. This is exactly what the OP provided for his kids.
In fact, he takes pride in his yards, as he likes having nice, soft, even grass for the kids to play on rather than a dry, patchy, half-barren stretch of dust. The OP noticed that his 4-year-old son wasn’t able to drive his ride-on car onto the patio because it was two inches above the yard.
His MIL opted to pile up soil and gravel on the grass to create a ramp, but this didn't make sense to the OP. The OP wanted to begin his annual yard work preparing for the season only to find damages, and he didn't take it likely.

Children's play places must be a number of things: entertaining, durable, exciting, and, above all, safe. Hard concrete and tarmac should never be used, which is why the OP made a nice playground for them.
OP's wife needs to grow a backbone and side with her husband, as there's so much work that goes into maintaining a lawn. The OP was declared not the AH at the end of it all.
