Fans Stunned As Award-Wining Actor Michael Keaton Reveals His Real Name As He Plans To Revert Back For Future Projects

by Jesse

Imagine if the name you’ve built your entire career on wasn’t actually your own. For fans of the iconic Michael Keaton, it’s almost unthinkable that the man who brought Batman and Beetlejuice to life would answer to anything else.

But in a surprising revelation, Keaton has shared that “Michael Keaton” isn’t his real name, and he’s now considering reverting back to his birth name.

For decades, fans have associated the name with his unforgettable roles in films like Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), and Beetlejuice (1988). As the Beetlejuicevsequel nears its release, this revelation has caught many off-guard.

The story behind his name change is as interesting as his career. When Keaton first stepped into the film and television world in the 1970s, he was met with a roadblock. According to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), no two members could share the same name, and unfortunately, another actor was already using his birth name.

It was then that the actor we’ve come to know as Michael Keaton adopted his now-famed stage name.

At 73, Keaton is considering whether it's time to reclaim his real identity. It’s a curious twist in a legendary career that has left fans intrigued as to what name he’ll go by next. After all, no matter what he's called, he’ll always be remembered for the roles that made him a Hollywood icon.

According to the rules state:

"It is SAG-AFTRA’s objective that no member uses a professional name which is the same as, or resembles so closely as to tend to be confused with, the name of any other member. SAG-AFTRA urges all applicants and members to minimize any personal or individual risk of liability by avoiding a name that may cause confusion.""SAG-AFTRA shall not be responsible or legally liable in the event an applicant or member uses a professional name that may cause any confusion," It continues.

Keaton's birth name is actually "Michael Douglas," but the name had already been claimed by a famous actor and producer who starred in Fatal Attraction (1987) and Basic Instinct (1992).

And if he thought “Mike” might be an easy switch, no luck there either. That name was taken too, by none other than the singer and talk show host Mike Douglas.

So, how did he land on "Keaton"? As the actor revealed to PEOPLE:

"I was looking through - I can’t remember if it was a phone book. I must’ve gone, ‘I don’t know, let me think of something here.’ And I went, ‘Oh, that sounds reasonable'."

Now, he's exploring the option of going back to his birth name.

The actor revealed that he intended to be credited as 'Michael Keaton Douglas' for his 2023 film Knox Goes Away, which he both starred and directed.

But in his words, he “forgot to give them enough time to put it in,” admitting that the whole thing “totally got away” from him.

Regardless, Keaton is set on making the change, stating that being credited as 'Michael Keaton Douglas' instead of just 'Michael Keaton' will happen for upcoming projects.

One to watch out for

As Michael Keaton gears up to embrace his true name, it marks an exciting new chapter in his legendary career. Whether we call him Michael Keaton or Michael Keaton Douglas, his impact on Hollywood remains undeniable.

Fans can only wonder what other surprises the actor has in store.
