Miley Cyrus Candidly Talks About The Grammys, Her Foundation, And The Iconic Artist She Texts Almost Daily

With nearly 20 years of being in the limelight, Miley Cyrus was still daunted by the idea of performing for millions of people at the Grammys. The 31-year-old two-time Grammy-awarded artist said she wanted her "Flowers" performance to be a celebration of bravery during an interview with W Magazine.

Her smash-hit single set a record when it was hailed the fastest song to hit a billion streams on Spotify globally. It was also the most streamed song of 2023 according to the streaming platform.

But Miley was not done surprising her fans and skeptics. Her next release was "II Most Wanted" — a song she wrote that featured on Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" album — debuted at number 6 on Billboard's Hot 100.

It was the singer's 13th song to be in the chart's top 10. Unknown to many, Miley's friendship with the music superstar goes beyond professional collaboration.

Miley said in the interview that when she is not "on," she leads a pretty normal day-to-day life. Unlike us, texting with Beyoncé is one of the things the singer does regularly.

They first met during the "Stand Up to Cancer” event where Beyoncé and Rihanna looked out for the then 16-year-old Miley. She remembered the superstars fondly because they treated her like a little sister.

Miley said she admired Beyoncé's attitude about her private life. Over the past years, Miley has also been selective of what she shares with the public when she's not on stage.

That safety in their relationship has been a cornerstone of their friendship. Miley said texting was just one of the cute things about her friendship with Beyoncé and what she loves is the relationship they have beyond their on-stage personas.

Forming strong relationships with icons is nothing new for the former Disney Star.

She grew up with a famous father but quickly made a name for herself as Disney's Hannah Montana.

However, Billy Ray isn't the only famous person in Miley's life. Her close relationship with her godmother, Dolly Parton, is one of the well-known yet surreal detail of the pop star's life.

She said Dolly Parton has been like a mother to her. They never lose touch even if she has to go to her lawyer's office just to read the adoring faxes her godmother sends to her.

What's a better reassurance than the Dolly Parton saying, "How much do I love you? As much as my heart can hold and as far as my arms can reach." One of the faxes from her godmother gets Miley all choked up.

Her Grammy win for Best Pop Solo Performance...

... shortly followed by a trophy for Record of the Year were a great indicator that the star is on the right path.

And Miley isn't even close to bidding goodbye to her winning year.

She also spoke about the significant changes that will happen to Happy Hippie — the LGBTQ+ foundation she started in 2014.

The non-profit is being renamed the "Miley Cyrus Foundation." She said Happy Hippie reflected who she was younger. She wants it to mirror who she is now. The singer hopes the change will open the foundation to more "adult" conversations.

The leaps Miley Cyrus made in recent years show the effort she put into herself. She may no longer bring wrecking balls, but the singer is still breaking barriers.

At 31, she became the youngest artist to be named a Disney Legend at the recent D23 ceremony. Her Grammy wins and other trophies finally made her feel like the industry and her peers are taking her seriously since they seem to ignore the impact she made as Hannah Montana and the ever-evolving Miley Cyrus.
