Babysitter Drops Child Off With Relative After Being Lied To About Her Pay

No matter what our job might be, we all work hard for our money. So, it goes without saying that no one would take kindly to being short-changed when it comes to pay.

Reddit user u/Positive-Ad384 certainly didn't, and she recently shared her story in the r/AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. The OP explained that she works as a babysitter while she finishes her early child education studies.

The Redditor prides herself on her professionalism. She advertises herself, and as a result, she gets multiple jobs each week.

The OP says she doesn't ordinarily babysit for family members, but on one occasion recently, she agreed to. The child was four, and the OP says she usually charges $15 an hour (or $200 a day) for a child that age.

The Redditor agreed to charge her family member $150 for the day. But, two hours in, the child's mother told the OP that she could only pay her $50-80.

Understandably, the OP wasn't happy. She told her relative that she had already lowered her rate for her.

The Redditor said she had missed out on higher-paying opportunities to help out her family member, so she wasn't about to be short-changed. After all, this was how she made her living.

But the OP's relative started ignoring her messages. So, the Redditor told her if she continued, she would drop off the child to another family member.

Of course, the child's mother continued to ignore her. So, the OP kept her word and took the child to another relative's house.

A few minutes later, the OP received a text message from her relative. She accused her of being "unprofessional" and "extremely selfish."

The OP says they agreed on a price beforehand and gave her several warnings before dropping off the child. But now she's wondering if she was the a**hole here.

The Redditor asked if she's an a**hole for dropping off a child she was babysitting because the parent lied about her pay.
