17 People Share Movies That Would've Been More Interesting From Another Character's POV

by Damjan

The movie industry seems to be stuck in a loop. We keep seeing Marvel Universe superhero movies and reboots, followed by DC Comics’ relatively successful attempts to cash in on the trends.

And with the latest Batman reboot hitting the movie theaters, it is hard not to ask yourself what the hell is going on here. We haven’t seen an original movie idea in years.

We somehow started believing it is only a myth. Do studio executives even receive scripts with original ideas or are they focused on finding new ways to cash in on already warn-out superheroes and ways to revive them?

One Reddit thread addressed this issue. It starts with a question: “If instead of rebooting movies, retelling them from a different point of view became popular, which movie would you like retold?”

People are more than happy to share their ideas, probably tired from all these reboots and relaunches, and… It looks like the marketing teams in studios are going into overdrives trying to figure out different names for the same thing- lack of inspiration and ideas.

We have selected some of the most interesting answers. Take a look, we know you will agree with them:

1. Jumanji (1995)

"I want to see it through the eyes of Bonnie Hunt's character, Sarah. She suffered years of emotional turmoil because her best friend got sucked into a board game right before her eyes and, no doubt, no one believed her. ...
Then, years later, some man shows up claiming to be him along with two other kids and the board game that probably plagued nightmares for years, and she was told that she had to finish playing it. That’s a whole different genre of movie there!"

Lionsgate

5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

8. Forrest Gump (1994)

—Kori Lynn

8. Forrest Gump (1994)
Paramount Pictures

9. The Little Mermaid (1989)

That supporting cast killed it!"

When it comes to cinematic suspense, there are a variety of ways for a writer to try to surprise the viewer with a plot twist. When a movie can take a single event or subplot and entirely transform the audience's view of that moment, it's one of the most impactful plot twists.

And it could also make a great standalone movie. Are you reading this, studio executives?
