Child-Free Couple Pretends To Be Drunk To Get Out Of Forced Babysitting During Their Family Vacation

Asking your family for a favor when you really need it is acceptable and even expected. Taking advantage of their kindness and free time, on the other hand, screams entitled behavior.

This woman immediately put a stop to her family using her as a free babysitter by employing a rather creative and spirited solution. On Reddit's Am I The A**hole sub, a young woman shared that she and her family stayed at a resort for vacation.

The whole family was there including cousins, spouses, and children. OP brought her girlfriend with her on this trip so they can unwind and spend time together.

During the first day, while they were enjoying some beachside barbecue, OP noticed that she and her girlfriend became the de facto babysitters.

The parents were telling their children to go play wherever OP was. The couple would then send the kids back to their parents who would bring them back and complain that they needed a break and OP should help.

To OP, it didn't look like helping. While OP and her girlfriend were minding seven children on their own, the parents of the kids spent the night getting drunk without a care in the world.

They needed to get out of this arrangement quickly, otherwise, they would be spending their vacation babysitting other people's children. The two came up with a solution that involved a bit of alcohol and a lot of acting.

They grabbed a few cocktails and some water.

In reality, the two of them don't drink as much and this night they weren't really planning on getting drunk. They just wanted the parents to think they were drunk to get out of babysitting duties during the trip.

They decided to pretend that every cup of water with a squeeze of lime was a double-shot vodka soda. Whenever they took a swig of the water/lime drink, they would pretend it was a strong shot.

Soon enough, OP had to grab another batch of the cocktails and water to keep up the act. They started to act like they were drunk; swaying on their feet, talking really loudly, just general intoxicated behavior.

While they were acting, the two were still actually being responsible by keeping an eye on the seven children sequestered to them. OP's girlfriend upped the game when she stood up and decided to choreograph a dance for OP to learn.

She would dance messily and wait for OP to copy the moves. OP obliged by being extra clumsy and tipsy dancing.

The parents of the children noticed and OP's sister approached them asking, "What the hell are you doing?" OP replied in a drunk voice that her girlfriend was just teaching her how to dance.

Not one to get outshined, OP's girlfriend "drunkenly" tripped on OP's chair forcing the other to catch her.

OP's sister asked them how many drinks they downed and OP acted confused. She enumerated the wrong amount of drinks, deliberately naming strong mixes.

After OP's "drunk" game of name that cocktail, her sister convened with the other parents. Soon enough, the "responsible" adults took their children back, away from the inebriated couple.

Little did they know, the two were actually quite sober and enjoyed a chill night sans children. For the next few days of the trip, OP and her girlfriend only needed to grab a single cocktail drink for the parents to stop trusting them to babysit.

"We were in charge of 7 kids all night!"

One drink = two extra strong ones, wink-wink.

Their brilliant plan was thwarted when OP's mom caught them.

OP confessed about the whole act and said they only played drunk so the others would stop treating them like free babysitters. Unfortunately, OP's mom does not believe that snitches get stitches and told the others about the whole charade.

The parents are now in uproar saying OP and her girlfriend behaved immaturely. They were also mad that they got scared for their children's safety once the couple started to get "drunk."

Were they so wrong to act drunk to get out of babysitting during a vacation?

It doesn't just happen to lesbian couples, it is also a usual scenario for child-free people

If they wanted a break without their kids, they should have a hired a babysitter. Also, why did the mom tell?

We think this could be the answer! Mom snitched because when OP and her girlfriend couldn't babysit, she was made to babysit the 7 kids.

Apparently, this also happens in some mom groups!

It is understandable that the parents needed a break from their kids but they should have made the proper arrangements

They didn't even ask, they just told OP to "help"

Babysitting is a job and you should ask the person if they are available, willing, and what their hourly rate is.

You can get away with asking someone to babysit for free one time, but every single time? Unacceptable.

Your choice to have kids, your responsibility to care for them

On top of making OP and her girlfriend shell out free labor, they also kind of ruined their vacation

The parents were probably mad because they were outsmarted by two younger people. Instead of having two women watch their kids while they get drunk, they had to actually care for them during a vacation.

If you do not want to care for your kids while on vacation, hire a nanny or a babysitter and pay them accordingly! You can't rope two people into free babysitting in the guise of helping family when they're also there for a break.
