Woman Accused Of "Being Mean" For Not Allowing Her Sister And Nephew To Stay At Her Home

The holiday season is upon us, which means lots of time spent with family (whether we like it or not). Well, of course, we love spending time with our loved ones, but sometimes - just sometimes - they can overstay their welcome.

One Reddit user recently shared a dilemma she's facing in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. She explained that she always hosts the family Christmas, and her sister and 5-year-old nephew usually stay at her house.

The OP says she loves hosting Christmas, but hosting the overnight guests is another story. She explained that her sister has some personality disorders which can make her difficult to deal with, especially while trying to get things organized for Christmas dinner.

She says that her sister doesn't help out with anything, and creates added stress for her by leaving things laying around and creating more mess. She also takes over their small bathroom while she's there and leaves the house in "complete chaos" when she goes.

Not to mention that her son is also very hyper and misbehaved. He often throws tantrums, and he is extremely demanding.

So, this year, the OP suggested that her sister and nephew stay in a hotel. She discussed it with their parents, and they agreed to put some money towards a hotel room for her so that everyone could relax and enjoy Christmas.

Of course, the sister wasn't impressed and came up with every possible excuse as to why that wouldn't be a good idea. Some of OP's co-workers also told her she was "being mean" for expecting her sister to stay in a hotel.

So, the woman decided to ask the Reddit community for advice, and, as always, they had plenty to say about it. Keep scrolling to find out how people reacted.

What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP is overreacting, or is it entirely reasonable for her to want her sister to stay in a hotel?

Hosting Christmas is a big deal and a lot of work. So, it's fair that the OP would want to minimize stress as much as possible.

We would love to hear your opinions on this. You can share your thoughts with us in the comment section.
