CCTV in Sao Paulo, Brazil, captured a horrifying moment as a woman plunged to her death in an out-of-control elevator on October 9. Adriana Maria de Jesus, 45, was on her way to work when she and two men entered the lift.
The footage, taken by a security camera, shows one of the men closing the door before Adriana presses a button. Seconds later, the elevator can be seen plunging to the ground from the fifth floor.
In the horrific clip, Adriana can be seen raising her arms up as the elevator falls. She then vanishes into a cloud of smoke as the lift crashes to the ground.
Sadly, Adriana passed away a few days later due to her severe injuries. The two men who were also in the elevator were lucky to survive.
Adriana's husband, Gildelio Alves do Santos, could do nothing but watch the footage helplessly as he was the building's concierge at the time. "I watched the monitor screen and saw my wife going up, and everything was normal. When it came down, I was horrified," he said.
"My heart is broken," he continued. "I have to find the strength to work and to get on with life because I have to work."
Gildelio explained that he and Adriana had been childhood sweethearts. They lost contact for 28 years before reuniting and getting married.
"We met again and had the chance to live this childhood love for six years," the widower said. An investigation into the accident is underway, and it has been reported that the elevator was installed around 60 years ago.

Atlas Schindler, the building's contract engineers, have also confirmed they are assisting police with their investigation and have suggested an elevator upgrade should be a priority for the building.
We hope Gildelio is able to heal from this traumatic loss. Rest peacefully, Adriana.
