People Shared The 'Revealing Moment' When They Realized Their Job Sucks

by Filip

Dan Price was born in 1984 and grew up in Idaho, known as a founder of a credit card processing and financial services company that believes in people. In 2004 he started a company with his brother Lucas Price called Gravity Payments.

Dan Price was only 20-years old when he founded the company and still a student at Seattle Pacific University, but he combat to realize his vision, and guess what - he succeeded. In just four years from the foundation, his company becomes the largest credit card processor in Washington, with over 15 thousand clients nationwide.

In 2015, he surprised everyone by raising the minimum salary for his employees by $70,000 and lowering his own from $1.1 million to $70,000. He wanted to ensure that every employee has decent earnings for life, even if it implies reducing his own.

This selfless act attracted immense public attention. Public comments and expectations weren't very supportive.

They called him an anti-CEO who will run his own company through bankruptcy. But that didn't encourage him to proceed with his unselfish vision.

In the next six years, his company revenue tripled, the employees had a 10-fold increase in the number of bought homes, and his actions are a case study at Harvard Business School. Quite a success for investing in other people and their better future.

Recently, Dan Price posted on his Twitter account an interesting question intending to connect with workers from all over the world and hear what they have to say about their working conditions. He tried to get insight and understand what workers want in their careers.

He wondered when people realized they were unhappy doing their jobs and what made them feel that way. Many people responded to his post, and we have selected 20 of them to share their "revealing moment".

Here is Dan's story.

6 years ago today I raised my company's min wage to $70k. Fox News called me a socialist whose employees would be on bread lines.

Since then our revenue tripled, we're a Harvard Business School case study & our employees had a 10x boom in homes bought.

If you ask the employers about their workers, they will probably say that finding a good worker is pretty hard. But when the work environment becomes disrespectful and people insensitive to your private needs, it is time for you to live and search for a better one.

If you are lucky to work under a company like Dan's is, you should give the best of yourself to stay there. It's not common for employers to care about their employees.

When everyone called his actions a failure, he had faith in his workers and himself, too. And, in the end, they have succeeded together.
