Misogynistic Marvel Fans Asked Why Brie Larson Wasn't Smiling As Captain Marvel And She Responded In A Heroic Way
In 2014, Marvel Studios announced that it will produce the Captain Marvel movie as the studio's first female-led superhero film. 2 years after that, Brie Larson was officially introduced as the female superhero.

The movie premiered in 2019 and was received very well both commercially and critically. It earned a whopping 1.1 billion dollars on its theatric release worldwide and it was the first female-led superhero movie to do so.
Despite critical and commercial acclaim, the movie was controversial. Primarily, MCU fans had a lot to say about the studio casting Brie Larson for the role.
People were upset that they turned Captain Marvel into a woman. They cried that it was a feminist agenda pushed by Hollywood to avoid getting canceled.
This anger was venomously expressed online by a bunch of misogynistic Marvel "fans" who couldn't take it that the Earth's mightiest Avenger is a woman. The moment the 1st movie trailer came out, they began foaming at the mouth.
They kept tweeting that Larson was too cocky as a superhero and no other hero acted like that (as if Iron Man was a humble Joe). The fans asked why Larson played the character as this stoic, unfeeling hero.
They asked why she wasn't smiling during her scenes and if she was capable of other expressions. Some vowed not to watch the movie unless she was recast.
Larson, true to her character, responded to the trolls in a heroic way, if we do say so ourselves. She wasn't the type of person to let something so toxic go unpunished and her response then is still worthy of applause even now.
This is the thumbnail for the movie's trailer with Captain Marvel's unsmiling face front and center
They even blamed her for Nick Fury not participating in the film (Samuel L. Jackson was, in fact, in the movie)
Why is this superhero so serious when all she had to do was save the world from an alien invasion?
She'd be prettier if she smiled
They were so mad about her not smiling that they "fixed" it
Yes, yes that is so much better and not at all creepy
Smiling as you plummet into the void Ms. Mar-Vell
See how much prettier you are when you smile?
When Brie Larson herself got wind of the ridiculous tweets, she responded and fans were quick to notice
Captain America was not smiling either, why not "fix" it too?
The only thing missing from Iron Man was this beautiful smile
The Sorcerer Supreme would have charmed Dormammu with those pearly whites
In support of Brie Larson's clapback, other fans joined in on the fun
That's a commercial waiting to happen right there
That's a smile worthy of a billionaire superhero
He was frozen for 66 years with that smile on his face
I can definitely see Fury and Black Widow sporting those friendly grins
Who can forget Thanos's friendly smile before he snapped half of the population?
Smile, you genocidal maniac! You would have your own spin-off if you smiled more and brought sandwiches.
Agent Carter would have fallen in love faster with this look
See? He stayed positive during those big fights. Soooo handsome.
Perfect!
It's only fair if all the heroes smiled for their close-up
Black Panther was smiling widely under that vibranium mask
Their happy faces would light up the darkest of worlds
The Lord Of Thunder would smile everytime he summons Mjolnir, this is a proven fact.
His face when he saw The Hulk
Who can forget Fury's signature playful face?
Ah yes, Wolverine's fighting stance is not complete without his toothy smile
That's how he encouraged the troops!
Good God, that's attractive!
Don't forget to smile before watching the Captain Marvel official trailer!
These types of "fans" think that women, even superhero women, exist for their pleasure. They're probably expecting her to show up with skimpy armor with a warm apple pie in her hand.
Captain Marvel won't be playing to your fantasies, people. She's a superhero, not someone you can tell what to do.
Take it up to Fury if you have a problem with it and see if he smiles at you. We do wonder if they can get away with saying this if Brie Larson was in front of them? We'd love to see that!
