Bruce Springsteen And Patti Scialfa Share Heartwarming Duet After Her Cancer Battle Goes Public
Bruce Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, shared an emotional on-stage moment just days after she publicly revealed her six-year battle with blood cancer.
The couple performed together at the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, moving the crowd with a tender rendition of Springsteen’s 1987 hit, "Tougher Than the Rest."
Scialfa, who has been a member of the E Street Band since 1984, received a warm welcome from the audience when Springsteen introduced her, playfully adding, "She’s lookin’ good too!" Dressed in black, Scialfa appeared touched by the outpouring of love and support.
Her revelation about battling early-stage multiple myeloma was first shared in the new documentary "Rock Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band," which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 8. In the film, Scialfa opened up about the difficulties of continuing to perform while undergoing treatment.
She described the experience as a "battle" but emphasized that her love for performing remains undiminished.
"I've been performing with this band for 40 years," Scialfa shared in the documentary. "With those first performances, it felt so good to be back onstage. Touring has become a challenge for me."
Scialfa was diagnosed in 2018 while she and Springsteen were performing in "Springsteen on Broadway."
Despite the challenges, she has continued to perform when possible, explaining that while her condition affects her immune system, it hasn’t dampened her passion for music.
"Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs onstage, and that's been a treat. That's the new normal for me right now, and I'm OK with that."

After their performance, Springsteen and Scialfa shared a heartfelt embrace before she waved to the crowd and exited the stage.
Scialfa and Springsteen have been married for 33 years and are the proud parents of three children: Evan, 34, Jessica, 32, and Sam, 30. Their relationship has always been one of mutual support, both in their personal lives and in their music careers.
