We've all had our shares of terrible roommates. And if you can't remember sharing the apartment with a horrible person, then you are either blocking that memory due to severe psychological trauma, or you were that terrible roommate.
But luckily, being a good roommate is something that can be learned. All you need is to start thinking more about people around you, and it will become a habit. But, of course, you do need help from your roommates.
