5 Reasons To Adopt A Sweet Special Needs Kitty

I have two sweet kitties whom I adore, and they came into my life in very different ways. One was adopted from a humane society, and the other was found at a car lot after hours.

That kind of easy adoption is not always the case for a special needs cat. These animals are often overlooked, even though they can make incredibly loving companions with the right care and patience.

Thanks to advances in veterinary care, adopting a special needs kitty is more possible than many people think, and the payoff can be huge.

1. You'll gain an open mind

You might think that a special needs kitty only needs sympathy, and many people feel bad for them. However, they are so much more than that! A cat with three legs will adapt and can very likely live a normal life once they adjust. This is reminiscent of humans who overcome similar circumstances.

Some people just need a little more time to see the appeal.

2. You'll gain new skills

You will be blessed with a whole new understanding of how to care for specific needs that you may never have encountered before. Some kitties can become diabetic, and their owners will need to stay informed about all things related to feline diabetes to keep their sweet kitties happy and healthy.

2. You'll gain new skills

3. You'll save a kitty from being in a shelter for a long time

Special needs kitties are not adopted at nearly the same rate as regular cats. By adopting a sweet, special needs cat from the shelter, you'll be saving them from years of waiting for their forever home.

That kind of wait can be hard on any animal.

4. You'll brighten the life of a sweet animal

Special needs cats are certainly cared for in shelters, but one-on-one adequate care is far superior. If you take in a sweet special needs cat, you can provide them with all the attention and care they need, changing their life for the better.

5. They will live another day

While there are no-kill shelters, even the best shelters have their limits. If a shelter needs to euthanize to make room for other kitties, the special needs ones will be the first to go. By adopting these little ones, you are literally giving them another chance at life.

5. They will live another day

And for the right person, that makes all the difference.
