Relatable Raccoon Is Caught On Family's Camera Scratching His Butt
Some neighborhoods have more animals than others, and for the Lee family in Newark, Canada, their yard in particular has had a lot of critters. Brian Lee and his wife work with the Ohlone Humane Society, trapping feral cats in the area with a spay or neuter and release program.
Intentionally trying to humanely trap curious critters like stray cats means the Lee family gets a variety of daily and nightly visitors, so it stands to reason they'd want a camera on their property, right? They may have set up their cameras to keep better track of the cats visiting their property, but that camera naturally captures all sorts of neighborhood critters in the process.
In an interview with The Dodo, Brian Lee said:
“We have avocado trees in the yard; they were getting ripe around this time, which always attracts raccoons."

Brian says that they never leave food out overnight, but that doesn't stop one visitor in partiular: raccoons.

Are raccoons pests? It's hard to say.
According to havahart:
"Raccoons are highly intelligent and curious creatures, but they can also be a nuisance to any homeowner. These nocturnal mammals can destroy gardens, make a mess by tipping over garbage cans, and can cause structural damage in search of food."

"Raccoons are omnivores with an opportunistic diet; eating almost anything they can get their paws on."

Recently, a raccoon visited the Lee family's property, but the critter didn't find any food.
Instead, he just happened in front of their camera at approximately the right time to be caught on camera scratching his butt. Lee said:
“He didn't stay long since there was no food, but I guess just happened to have an itch when he was in front of the camera."

When Brian checked the camera the next morning he was beside himself with laughter, saying:
“When I saw it in the previous night’s motion alerts … I didn’t know what to think!"

Amused, Lee showed his wife the raccoon's embarassing moment and naturally, other people wanted to have a proper giggle at the raccoon's expense.
That's entirely relatable, isn't it?
