Family Ties Balloons to Their Tiny Dogs So They Can Keep Track of Them and It’s Adorable
Ricky Ray may be tiny, but his family treats him like a full-time security detail. The little Chihuahua loves staying close, especially when there are strangers, birthday celebrations, and a house full of people moving in every direction.
That became a problem during a recent family vacation, when Tucker and her relatives were trying to keep track of Ricky Ray and Petrie in an unfamiliar house. Between the crowd, the commotion, and the open iron gates, the dogs could have slipped out or gotten stepped on without anyone noticing.
So the family came up with a very simple fix, and it worked better than anyone expected.

Tucker’s family and many of their friends recently stayed at a house together for a short vacation. They also used the opportunity to celebrate several birthdays, which meant a lot of people and commotion. Since it was a new space, the family was afraid of losing track of Ricky Ray and Petrie, the other Chihuahua staying there.
Besides the many people in the house trampling around, there were also other dangers. The house had big iron gates with large gaps between the rails, where the dogs could easily slip through. So, they needed a way to keep track of the little guys’ whereabouts.
They tied balloons to Ricky Ray and Petrie so that they and their guests could know where they were and avoid stepping on them by accident. This hack worked like a charm. They just had to scan the perimeter for balloons to find the dogs.
“It’s great for parties, for dogs that wander, and for older people or even kids to help prevent stepping on them,” Tucker says. “Ricky Ray is usually right by Mom’s feet, so it helps her avoid stepping on him as well. Sometimes he does wonder if we are in a different place, so it also helps keep track of him.”
That “please find my dog” panic is like the 7-year-old who made Wanted posters after his dog got stolen.
The family’s balloon trick turned into the easiest way to keep the tiny dogs safe.
The little Chihuahuas didn’t even seem to notice these accessories.
“They didn’t seem to mind the balloons at all.” “They don’t move very fast or very far.”
This simple hack proved to be very useful. It helped the guests be aware of the little dogs and avoid stepping on them, and it also helped the owners know their whereabouts.
Honestly, the balloons may have been the smartest thing in the house.
