Four Adorable Kittens Get Busted Trying To Escape In The Most Adorable Way Pawsible
Four foster kittens found a way to turn a catio into their own tiny escape room, and the result was almost too cute to catch in the act. Rajah, Genie, Abu, and Iago were supposed to be safely tucked away, but these little troublemakers had other plans.
Katie Krysan, who had been fostering cats through A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation in Wheaton, Illinois, was already used to kitten chaos by the time Mama Jasmine and her litter arrived. Still, one sneaky nap session on top of the catio led to a discovery that made the whole setup feel a lot less secure.
Once the kittens were busted, Katie and her husband had to figure out exactly how they were getting out. Read on.
In an interview with The Dodo, Krysan said:
“I felt powerless to do anything helpful during the pandemic, so I decided to start fostering kitties.”
A.R.F. depends on its family of volunteers as a dedicated, no-kill shelter without a physical location; their pets up for adoption live with fosters like Katie while they receive medical treatment, nutrition, spaying or neutering, and are raised to the appropriate age for their forever homes.

By the time a year had passed, Katie was well-versed in tending to cats and kittens as an experienced foster mom when Mama Jasmine and her litter of four kittens came around.
Adorably dubbed the Aladdin Litter, each kitten was named after a character from the Disney classic... and they had quite the punch-filled pack of purrsonalities, too!
In their foster home with Katie, Jasmine and her kittens had been living in a huge, netted catio to keep them safe. As anyone could expect, the kittens were pawsitively delighted by this arrangement. They loved climbing all over the catio and even learned how to scale the sides of the netting like little SpiderCats!

One day, Katie came to check on the fosters and saw something she couldn't believe.
Rajah, Genie, Abu, and Iago were all snuggled up on top of the catio, forming the most adorable kitten cuddle puddle that was also, well, naughty, because they were certainly not supposed to be up there.
The cuddle puddle of kitten goodness included a delightful doze session, at least until Katie interrupted them and woke them up. Hysterically, and relatable to fellow cat caretakers, the kittens were visibly annoyed to be disturbed from their slumber. You could almost hear an Aladdin soundbite from the Cave of Wonders: "Who disturbs my slumber?"
That nap spot was not exactly part of the plan.
Absolutely disgruntled. Unamused. Not impressed.

Thankfully, Katie and her husband were able to figure out how the kittens planned their great nap escape and thus were able to prevent a recurrence.

Katie told The Dodo:
“First, I blamed my husband’s failure to close all three door latches. I figured the door was slightly ajar at the bottom, and they squeezed out. So, when I put them away and closed the door, I thought the problem was solved.
But I came out later, and two of the kittens were out again! We then took a good look at the catio and found some loose areas in the netting… We’ve now reinforced it with extra zip ties, and it’s all good!”
It’s the same second-chance fight as Simba, the abandoned shop cat, getting rescued.
That mystery did not stay a mystery for long.
