Woman Comes Home With The Wrong Dog After Grooming, Only Realizes What Happened Four Months Later
It is every fur parent's worst nightmare to be separated from their precious babies, and it's never something we would want to wish upon someone no matter how much we don't like them. Losing our pets is just painful, and it definitely involves a lot of heartbreak when they pass away or go missing.

But take this one: how would you feel if your dog suddenly stops acting like themselves? Sure, there may be valid explanations for it like trauma and distress, and it may not seem like much of a big deal at all—but how would you feel when you come to realize that the dog you're holding isn't actually your dog all this time?
We've heard of babies getting exchanged unknowingly in hospitals—a mother's worst fear. But have you ever realized that it could happen to pets, too?
That was definitely the case with this certain Redditor called u/SecretSpud who had a shepherd named Emma. After going to a groomer for a haircut, OP began to take notice of how their dog was acting strange but brushed it off initially because they thought it was just no big deal.
“Physically, she was identical but mentally she was not there,” OP said. Four months later, OP's mom got a call from their groomer and was met with disturbing news.
A Reddit user shared their story on the platform about how their dog, Emma, began to act strange after being returned from the groomer.
Apparently, she has been taking care of the wrong dog for four months.
The dog looked exactly like Emma, but it didn't act anything like her. She ignored the people she already supposedly bonded with.
Emma used to be close with OP's father, and even had separation anxiety with him. For some reason, the imposter dog also exhibited signs of Emma's anxiety when the father was away for a trip—so they didn't think much of it at first.
Four months after that grooming visit, OP's mother got a call from the groomer, and she made some comments about how "Emma" has been acting weird ever since their last visit.
The groomer didn't said anything then, but the next day, she asked for the dog to be brought to the shop immediately.
Apparently, another dog owner called the groomer and shared the same sentiments. It was then they realized that their dogs have been unknowingly exchanged all this time.
The dogs were actually siblings from the same litter.
It's a good thing OP got her dog back, but we can't deny that the whole thing can indeed be traumatizing.
OP got a gift basket as an apology from the groomers.
But it seemed too late for all these stuff, because four months really is a wrong time for such a situation to take place.
The real Emma reportedly lost a lot of weight and developed some hotspots.
People were suggesting to microchip the dog in case something like this happens again in the future.
Seems like there's something way deeper here.
We've been repeating that question in our heads, too!
Poor Bear. The dog's time with OP must've been the best he's ever had.
It was definitely weird how they didn't immediately know, but hey, if were were in their place, we honestly would have no idea, too.
Oops.
It might have been disturbing, but it was actually a great coincidence to happen.
Bear did a great job pretending to be Emma.
These things actually happen!
How many Bears and Emmas have been in this situation out there?
This applies to all fur-parents, too.
Good thing they were able to get Emma back, but four months is still a long time.
Stuff happens.
Ha!
Poor Emma sounds traumatized and confused.
Bless you, Emma!
We sure hope Bear was in good hands, too.
It's horrifying to think how both dogs must have felt being in the wrong place and having no voice to question it and we definitely hope Emma was taken care of well while she was in the other couple's home! This is definitely one of the worst nightmares every fur parent should be wary of.
