Cat Gives Birth in Family’s Rain Gutter, and the Little Furry Family Had to Be Saved Before a Thunderstorm Began
A quiet afternoon turned into a rescue mission when a family heard an odd noise outside their bedroom window and found a stray cat giving birth in their rain gutter. The spot was cramped, exposed, and nowhere near safe, but Storm had already picked it for her kittens.
With a thunderstorm on the way, the family rushed to keep the tiny litter warm while the RSPCA and local fire department worked out how to reach them. What started as a strange backyard discovery quickly became a race against the weather.
Storm and her five kittens all made it out, and their story only gets better from there.
A family heard a peculiar noise outside their bedroom window. It was a cat that had decided to give birth there.
The family contacted the RSPCA, and they quickly arrived.
“Alongside fire and rescue, I managed to get up onto the roof… and slowly but surely contain the mother using a reach-and-rescue pole, then pick up each kitten and bring them to safety,” Bailey said.
They managed to save the cat and all five kittens.
The cat (later named Storm) was clearly perplexed, but she didn't put up much of a fight because she seemed to understand that everyone was only trying to get her and her babies to safety. The entire family was rescued without difficulty from the gutter, and the family was relieved that Storm and her kittens would not be stuck out in the storm.
The rescuers named her Storm.
Storm and her adorable babies have been placed in the RSPCA's care. Rain, Thunder, Misty, Foggy, and Hail are the names of the kittens. Storm was microchipped, but the information was outdated, and the RSPCA was unable to contact her family.
If no one claims her, she and her young kittens will be available for adoption once they're a little older. Storm may not have chosen the most convenient location for her babies to be born, but fortunately, her family found her just in time.
Storm and her five kittens (Rain, Thunder, Misty, Foggy, and Hail) are now up for adoption.
Cats reach sexual maturity around the age of four months. As a result, the current recommendation is to have your cat neutered around this age to avoid unexpected pregnancies.
A cat's pregnancy lasts about 63 to 65 days. So, in theory, a cat can give birth for the first time when she is only six months old.
