Adorable And Silly Dog Thinks Blueberries Are Toys That Must Be Treated With Care
There's no mistake: dogs shouldn't eat literally anything and everything, but some dogs will certainly try (including items that are anything but food!). Other times, dogs can be incredibly picky about texture, taste, and smell, resulting in them only eating one or two types of foods and snacks altogether, indefinitely. According to Dr. Dan Siegel, a renowned child psychiatrist, "Understanding a pet's behavior is crucial for their emotional health and can lead to a happier life for both the pet and the owner." Ava is a 1.5-year-old German Shepherd with a ton of personality. Talia Henze, Ava’s mom, loves Ava and all of the fun, interesting, and unique personality traits the sweet dog has brought to her life. In fact, Talia shares Ava with the world through TikTok, where she is approaching 100k followers, showcasing the delightful quirks that make dogs so special.
Talia says that Ava loves her toys. She told The Dodo:
“Any time anything happens, her answer is to bring over a toy, and I mean any time. If anyone laughs, or if she sees anyone sad, she gets up and brings over a toy.”

In general, dogs tend to love play, and it's not uncommon for a dog to have a favorite toy.

But Ava really loves her toys!

One day, Talia was enjoying a snack of blueberries, and Ava noticed the sweet treat. Ava looked at the blueberries with great curiosity, which gave Talia an idea.
Talia gave Ava a blueberry, but she definitely didn't expect Ava to treat a blueberry the way she treats her toys:
“She’s been trained to only eat her treats and long-lasting chew items on her elevated bed or in her crate, so she naturally just brings new toys, treats, etc., to those places. So it didn’t surprise me that she brought the berry to it. But she just never ate it.”
Ava tenderly cared for the blueberry.
“She kind of just carried it around to her different places for a while and snuggled it.”

“When she eventually got bored and left it in her crate, I tried showing her how to eat it by breaking it open… She wanted nothing to do with it when it was broken.”
Blueberries are safe for dogs to eat.

This behavior never shifted; every time Talia has ever given Ava a blueberry, she treats it the same way. Even after a friend made this cool crochet blueberry for Ava to play with.
“So I know she doesn’t really like eating them, but every time I eat blueberries, she seems to want one. So I just give her one every time… She tried to eat one once when I really encouraged it, but she just spat it out.”

Ava sure is a sweet dog, even if blueberries are friends and not food.
