Dog Realized He Was Lost And Turned Himself 'In' To The Police Station
I think it is safe to say that pet owners love to believe their animals are the smartest creatures around, and sometimes a dog comes along and makes that argument for them.
That seems to be exactly what happened with Chico, a lost pup in Texas who apparently decided the police station was the best place to report for help. Instead of wandering aimlessly, he walked right up to the front desk and made his situation known.
Chico's little detour turned into a surprisingly sweet story, and the officers were more than happy to help him while they figured out where he belonged.
Meet Chico!

One morning last week, officers at the Odessa Police Department in Texas discovered that they had an unexpected visitor: Chico, a polite but apparently lost doggo. He gently laid his paws across the front desk and let the department know about his lost status.
They quickly figured out he was a missing dog, or more accurately, he was missing his human. Sergeant Rusty Martin was one of the officers who came across Chico and stated that the dog did not seem to be distressed about his situation. It almost seemed as if he had gone for a stroll instead and decided to pay the officers a little visit to do nothing more than bring them a little sunshine.

Could you imagine their surprise?!

The officers reported that they made sure to make his day a little better in return for his visit. They said he received "lots of love and attention" and that "we were all excited to have him in the building." Martin also added that, "we had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved him."
As much as the officers wanted to ensure he was returned to his rightful owners, that ended up being a more daunting task than they had hoped it would be. Considering his ID tag had fallen off his collar, they called animal control to check for a microchip instead.
But as soon as playtime was over, Chico decided he was out of there. He didn't wait around long enough for animal control to actually show up!
Good Chico boy!

Lucky for everyone involved, Chico headed straight home, and they reported him home the following day.
"He ran out just as quickly as he came in," Sergeant Martin stated. "The owner responded the next day [to say that] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station."
Maybe they should have hired him onto the K-9 unit?!
Facebook commenters weighed in on this incredibly fascinating story.

This is similar to the man who refused to return a support dog, sparking an ownership dispute.
The comments section had plenty to say about Chico's unexpected police visit.I would've hired him!

Suppose he'd just had a bath? Spruced himself up prior to coming in?

Certainly!

I agree!

Such a smart pup!

The audacity of those humans!

I was waiting for this comment! They're on a roll! LOL

Chico may have been lost, but he definitely knew where to go for help.
Chico was not the only “missing” dog who walked in, check out the puppy who strolled into the station to report himself lost.
