A Persian Cat Gets Reunited With His Family 365 Miles Away Thanks To A Social Media Post
Pets sometimes run away. Even though Oliver is a house cat who rarely leaves his home in Mountain Home, Idaho, he somehow managed to get outside on his own and disappear.
His family was baffled but didn't have time to contemplate how he escaped. Instead, they were busy worrying and trying to find him.
Unfortunately, he wasn't microchipped, which made the search even more difficult. All the family could do was post flyers around the neighborhood and share posts on social media.
Then, six days later, someone found Oliver – in Alberton, Montana, a town 365 miles away. The person who found him gave him a bath because he was dirty and took him to AniMeals, an adoption center in Missoula, Montana.
"The person who found him said he was really dirty, so she gave him a bath and brought him to us on the 24th," wrote AniMeals.
The staff at AniMeals posted about Oliver on their social media page. Incredibly, one of their followers saw the post and connected with Oliver's owners. It turned out that social media can actually do some good.
Oliver might never have found his way home if it weren't for them. He was incredibly lucky.
Oliver, a Persian cat, never leaves the house, but somehow he disappeared from his home in Mountain Home, Idaho

"The family made the 365-mile drive to retrieve Oliver on Thursday. They said they don’t know how he got out. AniMeals suggested he could’ve hitched a ride in or on a car that made it all the way to Missoula," NBC reported.
Thankfully, Oliver now has a microchip. He won’t be easily lost ever again.
And he was found six days later

It’s a mystery how Oliver managed to travel so far in such a short time. People from AniMeals suggested that the cat had hitched a ride in a car.
But did someone take him inside, or was the driver unaware he had a stowaway? Nobody knows for sure except for Oliver.
Someone found him in Alberton, Montana - 365 miles away from his home

The family was notified about Oliver’s whereabouts, and they traveled for eight hours to the shelter. Rachael Bush, his owner, was heartbroken after losing him. Now, her best friend was coming home.
"And I asked to open the cage, and right there I knew it was Oliver," she told KTVB7. "Everyone has a best friend, and Oliver was mine. I was just missing something; home did not feel like home without Oliver."
He is now back with his family

And has a microchip

Annemarie Bush shared a video on Facebook of Rachael gently holding Oliver on the ride home.
"We made it home!! Oliver slept almost all the way, just waking up enough to love Rachael and then going back to sleep. I can’t thank everyone enough for helping us find him!"
AniMeals said the story was a great opportunity to talk about microchipping.
"This is a perfect example of how important microchipping pets and sharing lost/found pets is. Never assume your pet will not get out or disappear under unusual circumstances."
And we couldn't agree more...
