Adorable Puppy Who Was Dropped From the Sky by a Bird of Prey Is Actually a Purebred Dingo
A tiny puppy, a bird of prey, and a backyard in rural Australia do not sound like they belong in the same sentence, but that is exactly how Wandi's story begins. What first looked like a lost dog turned into something far stranger, especially once the scratches on his back and the local wildlife started to raise questions.
Wandi was found in Wandiligong, Australia, after a family heard whimpering in their yard and discovered the little animal on the ground. They assumed he was a missing puppy at first, but when nobody came forward, the mystery only deepened. Then the DNA results changed everything.
By the time the truth came out, Wandi was already winning hearts for a reason nobody expected. Read on.
After taking the puppy Wandi to veterinarian Rebekah Day, who practices in the nearby town of Bright, they noticed that the pup had scratches on his back, which appeared to be from a large bird.

There were many large birds of prey in the area, so the family wasn't surprised.

Rebekah advised that it was not uncommon for small animals like puppies to be taken by birds. "We have seen lambs and small dogs picked up on occasion," she said.

When the Dingo Discovery Foundation heard about the pup, they got in touch with Rebekah, who was caring for Wandi.

They decided to send a genetic sample from the puppy to the University of New South Wales for DNA testing.

When the results came back, the foundation was elated to discover that Wandi was, in fact, a 100% purebred dingo!
Dingos are currently a vulnerable species in danger of extinction, so the sanctuary was delighted to take Wandi into their care. Good luck, little Wandi!
