Extremely Disheveled Dog In Dreadlocks Who Hates To Be Touched Just Got A Makeover And It's The Most Amazing Thing You Will See Today

by Sophia

Like humans, animals also easily show signs of distress and trauma, especially the ones who have been wrongfully abandoned. Animals, and particularly, in this case, dogs, most often experience neglectful owners and went through outright abuse, and even though it's truly unfortunate, it's a good thing that most of them do end up as a rescue in shelters because who knows what could happen further if they were to spend the rest of their life under the care of such an abusive human?

Sometimes, a dog's trauma won't be easily or physically visible as it would only show through their behavior such as showing avoidance, freezing, defecating, or urinating when in the presence of the thing or person that's triggering them, or becoming a lot more aggressive. But in worst cases, a dog's appearance at just the first glance will tell you all you need to know about what they have gone through, and it's a really disheartening sight to see.

You would know that a poor dog has been through some tough times if they are visibly shaking, and are refusing any kind of physical contact from anyone who would like to help. They are far too traumatized to let themselves mingle with humans again, and while it may not be easy, patience and persistence will truly go a long way when it comes to recovery.

That's definitely the case with this particular dog that you're about to see...

Meet Barny.

The people that found Barny were shocked to see his appearance the first time they spotted him near Barking Mad Dog Rescue (BMDR).

“We found Barny near our shelter in a small village called Nisipari in Romania,” Hayley, the adoption team leader at BMDR, said to The Dodo.
“The shelter is quite remote, so we believe someone left him there for us to find. We don’t know where he came from or how he came to be in such a terrible condition.”

Barny had such a matted appearance that his fur looked like it was in dreadlocks. It was also hard to tell that he was even a dog because of how drastically disheveled he was.

The poor boy had clearly been through so much abuse and mistreatment. It's a good thing that his new friends at the shelter made it their mission to let him have another great chance at life and help him settle down to be more comfortable with his skin again.

“He was VERY scared and didn’t want to be touched or handled,” Hayley said.

Since Barny was extremely nervous and his fur is all over the place because of the matting, the vet decided that it would be more convenient for everyone if they sedated Barny while shaving his dreadfully unkept fur.

Once they finally clean him off of his dreadlocks, it would be easier for them to fix any other injuries, clean his teeth, and ensure that his well-being will be all taken care of. As you can guess, it took a lot of people and several hours to get him up and going, and it also took a lot of work to groom him back to a healthier state.

When they were finished, Barny looked completely brand new, his poor appearance gone and no more.

Barny definitely felt a lot better and it showed with the way he's finally tolerating human contact now. The dog still has a long way to go for his complete recovery, but the people in the shelter are more than happy and willing to help him shake off the trauma and abuse he experienced.

It has been over six months after Barny had a transformation, and he definitely seems a lot more alive and different than the one that entered the shelter. There are still a lot of work that needs to be done, but he has come so far already!

People at the shelter can vouch for his progress, as they say that they love watching him slowly come out of his comfort zone little by little each day.

“Barny is a real cheeky character and is settled in really well at the shelter,” Hayley said. “He’s learning to trust and gets better every day.”

It's truly heartbreaking that there are a lot of dogs out there who have experienced the same struggles as Barny but are still yet to find goodhearted people to rescue them. It's also really disheartening that some people can just stomach abusing these poor boys who only want everything good in the world.

We're hopeful that Barny meets a family that will take him in and cares for him in the way he deserves. Comment down your thoughts, or share this article for all your family and friends to see!
