Faithful Dog Refuses To Leave His Elephant Friend During His Last Hours On Earth
When it comes to friendships, there are no differences in size or color among species in the animal kingdom. However, due to a concept known as "the food chain," there are some species that do not get along. :)
Nevertheless, the animals that are not affected by a direct "relationship" in the food chain have no excuses not to get along. They seem to recognize that they have been harmed in some way and make rapid associations.
Pancake, despite his small size, is an extremely affectionate dog. He was rescued from the streets three years ago and transferred to an elephant sanctuary.
When BLES founder and CEO Katherine Connor learned about Pancake, she adopted him and brought him to the shelter. Despite not being particularly elephant-like, he has adapted well and is highly aware of everything.
He made friends with an elephant who had a similarly difficult experience. She was rescued from a camp where she was forced to carry tourists on her back five years ago.
As a result, her spine was severely damaged and on the verge of breaking. She arrived at BLES at the age of 60.
There, she was finally able to live the peaceful life she had probably dreamed of.
This is Pancake

She made friends with an elephant named Boon Thong

Boon Thong was rescued from a tourist spot, where her back was badly injured from carrying tourists

Boon Thong had comforted an elderly elephant named Sao Noi

Boon Thong met an elderly elephant named Sao Noi, who had died two years before Boon Thong arrived. Boon Thong was with Sao Noi in the final minutes before she died.
To let her know he was there, he stood next to her and massaged her trunk.
Boon Thong became ill, and there was nothing that vets could do. She was simply too old.

This time, it was Boon Thong’s turn to say goodbye, and she wasn't alone.

Pancake sensed that something was wrong, so he stayed by Boon Thong's side when she became ill. Katherine and Pancake remained with her during her final days, feeling sorrowful that there was nothing else they could do.
Katherine and Pancake spent nine hours with Boon Thong on her last day.

“Pancake, with that beautiful heart, did not leave Katherine or Boon Thong alone once. He knew it was necessary to offer support. And he stayed silent with the elephant until sunset, until the last encouragement,” BLES officials wrote on their social networks.

As a tribute, fruits and flowers were placed on her tomb. Her body will also lie with that of her good companion, Sao Noi, in a location where she was finally able to be happy and live a full life.
This is a heartwarming story about animals who have feelings and can empathize. How many of those have you seen about people?
Once again, animals show us that we can learn so much from them. Yet, we never seem to learn that lesson.
And it's the most important lesson of all.
