After Waiting 279 Days For A Home, This Dog Is Extremely Excited To Have His Very First Family Photo Taken
Malcolm spent 279 days waiting for a home, and by the time his big day finally arrived, everyone at the shelter was ready to celebrate. He came to Michigan Humane as a stray with an unknown past, but his easygoing personality and close bond with staff made him impossible to forget.
Even after becoming the shelter’s longest-stay resident, Malcolm kept settling into the routine and watching other dogs leave for their new lives. Then, after all that waiting, his adoption day brought the kind of moment everyone had been hoping for, especially when it was time for his very first family photo.
He had waited long enough, and this was the moment that made it all worth it.
“Malcolm is quite a character,” Tommy Sanfilippo, a staff member at MARL, told The Dodo.
“When people would enter his kennel, he would often greet them with a toy in his mouth, prancing around in a circle with his whole backside happily wiggling. He was always an easy dog to introduce to new volunteers; just give him a few treats to break the ice, and he's good to go.”

“He was already good friends with his new mom; she met him while volunteering with us and had spent lots of time hanging out with him,” Sanfilippo said.

“They even went on some outings together: going to the park, the pet store, and even to her home.”

Malcolm seemed to know something special was happening that day.
And if you think Malcolm’s 279-day wait is intense, this is similar to the shelter’s long-term canine resident who finally got adopted after 633 days.
“I think he picked up on the fact that something was different about that day,” Sanfilippo said.
“His enormous smile as he posed for a picture with his new family really is worth a thousand words.”

“We've been fortunate to get several updates from his adopters, and they've all been great,” Sanfilippo said.
“He's gone on some fun adventures, enjoys lots of snuggles at home, and is getting the love and consistency that help turn a good dog into a great pet. It's honestly a perfect fit for him.”

Despite waiting for 279 days, Malcolm finally settled into his new forever home, and he couldn't possibly be happier. He already has a lot of love for his new parents and can't wait to go on all the adventures and make memories with them.
