Wholesome Dog Develops a Special Connection with a Garbage Man She Patiently Waits for Every Week
Have you ever heard the notion that animals, especially dogs, can sense good and genuine people? Well, that's actually true—according to Wag!, dogs can undoubtedly tell if someone is a good person or not because they have a special ability to notice human behaviors that others may not easily pick up on.
In some ways, it's kind of their version of a sixth sense. They can actually "scan" a person's energy and determine if they are "good" or "bad."
Dogs are undoubtedly very intelligent and intuitive, and they can easily distinguish if someone is sending off negative vibes or energy. Take this with a grain of salt: bad energy attracts bad energy, so if your dog sometimes barks randomly or growls and bares his teeth at someone he just met, it may be a clear sign that the person is up to no good.
Conversely, a dog appears more relaxed and playful when they are in the presence of good energy, and you would know this because their tail would be wagging gleefully. When a dog feels safe, they are truly happy, so when they are in the presence of someone who makes them feel secure, that dog will warm up to them quickly, even if they aren't necessarily a person he lives with.
Ever wonder why a dog sometimes follows a complete stranger around? That's because they sense that the person is good!
This may be the case with this particular dog, who has formed a wholesome friendship with a garbage man that visits their area every week...
Meet Lily the Labrador!
For over two years now, Lily has always waited in her family's yard every week for her best friend to arrive. And it isn't another dog—it's the local garbage man, David!
David always makes sure to give some time to Lily for pets, playtime, and of course, treats, so it's no wonder that the dog is so fond of him.
Lily always takes her spot waiting in their front yard in Bedford, New Hampshire.
She enjoys sitting there and watching people pass by, ready to face any kind of trespasser, especially squirrels, who dare to enter their home's property.

But even though she's wary of potential trespassers, Lily always hopes that a friendly person will pass by and come say hi to her.
She always makes sure to wag her tail at everyone who passes by, including every mailman and canvasser. However, she is often disappointed because no one gives her the kind of attention she craves while observing the streets.

Given that Lily is undoubtedly a smart dog, she began to notice that her family usually brought out their trash every Thursday night. She also observed that a man would take it the next day.
Naturally, Lily began to recognize the pattern. She just knew that the garbage man would be her friend.
“Their relationship has blossomed into the sweetest thing,” one of Lily’s owners, Ishaan Chatterjee, told The Dodo. “We actually give [our garbage man] holiday gifts every year to show our appreciation for how he treats Lily.”
It's really a no-brainer to say that the connection between David and Lily is certainly special. Lily usually treats everyone with love, even those who don't like dogs, but it's safe to say that there is a deeper bond between them.
Even though David does bring her treats, Chatterjee truly believes that their friendship is due to the fact that Lily, being a dog, can see the best in people. Lily doesn't really mind who you are or what job you have—as long as you show kindness, she will always make sure to reciprocate that kindness.
“She shows us how to be kinder to others!” Chatterjee said. “It’s amazing what we can learn from animals.”
