Rescued Dog Who Lost All Her Babies Fostered Three Orphaned Kittens
Georgia was rescued from a gas station near the border of the U.S. and Mexico. She was in very bad shape and was surviving on scraps.
To make her situation worse, she lost an entire litter of puppies. Due to her health, the vets performed an emergency C-section but were not successful in saving her puppies.
They were all premature and born before their term. That is when the rescuers from Sunshine Dog Rescue found her wandering around.
Georgia is an Australian Shepherd mix.
She seemed lost and was desperately looking for her babies.
Anita Ota, the founder of Sunshine Dog Rescue, referred to Georgia's condition when they rescued her, saying, “The best way I could describe it was that she was frantic.”

She further said, “It was so sad; she was looking for those babies."
“She tore up the toddler mattress we had her on, trying to find her babies.”

Seeing the opportunity that Georgia was lactating, Anita posted a request on Facebook to inquire if any puppies required breastfeeding.
They were unable to find puppies, but fortunately, there were some orphaned kittens who were desperate for a mom.
Anita was a bit unsure, as they were two entirely different species. It was likely that they would not form a bond.

Anita said, “I was certainly unsure.”
“But I had seen other species nurse another species before, so I thought, 'worst-case scenario, she doesn’t take to them, and I have some kittens I need to tend to myself,'” she added.

As a series of misfortunes continued, they lost one kitten on their very first night with them.
However, as luck would have it, the remaining three kittens are doing just fine and have developed a loving bond with their new mama.

The Sunshine Dog Rescue took it upon themselves to care for this unusual family.
They were happy that both the dog and the kittens were doing great and had recovered from their individual traumas.

As for the bonding of the two entirely different species in the form of a family, Anita shared her experience.
She said, “I introduced them to her gently. I first brought one out and let her sniff it, and she seemed to accept it, so I brought the others out.
It’s amazing to see how she instantly calmed down. I think for the kittens, they have no idea that Georgia is a dog.”

As the saying goes, one man's curse is another man's blessing.
Such was the situation for these kittens and Georgia. They have all suffered traumas individually and have come together to heal each other and form a beautiful family.

All is well that ends well.
All four animals have now been adopted, and amazingly enough, Georgia and one of her kitten babies are living under the same roof. As luck would have it again, the person who adopted Georgia had a roommate who adopted one of the kittens.
