Rescued German Shepherd Found In Distress With Head Trapped In Concrete Wall
A German Shepherd named Rebel did not start his day planning to get his head stuck in a concrete wall, but that is exactly how the call went down. And the first reaction from the people arriving on scene was pure disbelief.
Riverside County Animal Services Sergeant James Huffman and his team showed up to a massive hole in the wall, where Rebel’s head was trapped and his body was doing everything it could to keep working the opening. The complicated part was that the dog was distressed, but he was also actively cooperating, stiffening his hind legs to help guide the rescue.
By the time they got his head through, the whole situation felt less like a random accident and more like Rebel insisting he was not done with his day.
‘Wow, how’d he get in there?’
“My initial reaction was, ‘Wow, how’d he get in there?’” said Riverside County Animal Services Sergeant James Huffman. “And why is there a hole that big in the wall?”

"He knew we were there to save him."
“He let us know if we were pushing too hard – but he kept working right along with us,” Huffman said. “He helped a lot. You could see his hind legs stiffen to assist in the direction we were going. He knew we were there to save him.”

Rebel and his rescuer

Huffman stared at that huge gap in the concrete wall and basically asked how Rebel even got there in the first place.
Once the officers carefully guided Rebel’s head through the opening, it was clear the dog was paying attention to every move they made.
Huffman said Rebel “knew we were there to save him,” even letting them know when they were pushing too hard.
And when Rebel’s hind legs stiffened to help steer the rescue, the whole thing turned into a teamwork moment instead of a struggle.</p>
Dogs' adventurous spirits and curiosity can lead them down risky paths. While it's endearing to witness their playful nature, we, as responsible owners, must be vigilant and protect them from potential harm.
Providing appropriate supervision or training them with basic obedience commands can create a secure environment for our furry friends. Extra attention and care go a long way in keeping our beloved dogs out of harm's way and allowing them to continue enjoying their lives to the fullest.
Rebel got out, but you can bet he is still questioning how that wall ended up in his business.
