Dorothy The Hairless Pug Is Just As Adorable As She Is Peculiar
According to Gretchen Rubin, a happiness researcher, "The companionship of pets can significantly enhance our happiness and emotional health." Pugs, with their unique personalities and affectionate nature, certainly embody this bond. This ancient breed, dating back to 400 BC, has a rich history of companionship, originally bred for Chinese royalty who valued their loyalty and charm. As Dr. Terri Orbuch, a relationship researcher, states, "Pets can provide a sense of connection and love that is essential for our well-being." Despite the controversies surrounding their health in modern times, pugs continue to capture hearts and remain a beloved breed today.
This is Dorothy; she's a pug, but she's unlike probably any other pug you've seen before. She's not the only pug like her in existence, but she's definitely extremely unique.

Dorothy is hairless, and it wasn't due to disease, illness, or injury; she was born this way.

Micah Williams, Dorothy's human mom, has made it clear that they wouldn't have their pug any other way. They love her exactly as she is, in all her naked glory.
In fact, Micah obviously delights in her precious pug pup, which is par for the course with pug-crazed folks (speaking from experience).

In an interview with The Dodo, Micah said:
“My favorite thing in the world is people seeing her and reacting. It’s either pure horror or instant adoration.”
Dorothy has a growing social media presence, with almost 10k followers on Instagram and 120k followers on TikTok (with 4.7 million likes!).

So what's the deal with the peculiar pug? Micah isn't sure.
“We got a dog DNA test, and we found out she is 87.5 percent pug and 13 percent terrier or other, so no answer there,” Williams said regarding the origins of Dorothy's likeness.

Dorothy is a happy, well-loved dog, and being hairless has not interfered with her lifestyle. Although sometimes when it's cold, she has to wear some clothes, which is similar to the experience of a Sphynx cat (hairless cats).

Micah told The Dodo:
“When I got her, we lived in Phoenix, so we didn’t have to worry too much about clothing. However, we moved to Chicago about eight years ago, so [she] requires copious amounts of sweaters, dog onesies, and puffy coats in the winter.”

“Despite the looks on her face, she is the sweetest dog ever,” Williams said. “She loves to snort, snuggle, eat, and sleep — apparently she got the full pug personality!”
