Couple Bought An Old Farmhouse And Quickly Discovered It Came With 15 Cats
Emily Bott and Dylan Loewke thought they were buying an old farmhouse, but the property came with a surprise that was impossible to miss: 15 cats lounging in the front yard.
At first, the couple assumed the animals would be gone before move-in day. Instead, Dylan asked that the cats stay, and Emily, who had never owned a cat before, quickly found herself helping care for a whole colony of barn cats with health issues and no real home.
What started as a house hunt turned into a full-time rescue story, and the cats were only just getting started.
Emily and Dylan made sure that all 15 cats received veterinary care and any treatment they needed. Then it was time to start earning the cats' trust.
"In the beginning, there was only one cat that was friendly enough to approach, Valencia," Emily said. "She's our queen bee!"
"I could tell there were a few others that were curious and interested in us, but it took months (and some years) for the others to trust us enough to approach them and even pet them," Emily said. "I spent many nights sitting in my driveway, throwing treats at them, feeding them catnip, and engaging them with toys."
It was a slow win, but the cats eventually came around.
With some hard work and patience, the cats eventually built a bond with their new humans.

Some still don't like being handled, but they trust Emily and Dylan and love them very much.

Each of the cats has a name, and they all have unique personalities.
Emily and Dylan adore them all and wouldn't change their situation for anything.

"I would say living with so many barn cats has been a blessing," Emily said. "Every time I step outside, I'm greeted by them immediately."

Since moving into their new farmhouse, Emily and Dylan have embraced their role as cat caretakers, often accompanied by a parade of felines as they go about their daily routines. Emily describes how a couple of cats follow her closely, and she can easily summon the entire group with the sound of a treat bag, highlighting the immediate bond formed between them.
Emily shares that she has a dedicated crew that walks her down the driveway when she goes to check the mail, with one cat, Valencia, even sprinting to greet her car when she arrives home. The couple's commitment to their furry friends has only deepened since they adopted Tofey, who has seamlessly integrated into their growing family of sixteen barn cats.
With a vision to open an animal sanctuary, Emily and Dylan are motivated by their experiences with these cats to extend their compassion to even more animals in need. Their journey not only showcases the joy and responsibility that come with caring for animals but also serves as a reminder of the lessons in empathy and nurture that such experiences can provide for families. Their story is one of growth, love, and a hopeful future dedicated to helping more cats find their forever homes.
Now they have a whole farm full of cats to call family.
Wait until you see the cat-household drama when a woman tried keeping one of two cats for her homeless friend.
