Grandmother Was Given The Most Beautiful Gift After Being Told She Was 'Too Old' For A Dog
Andrea Hijar thought she was helping her grandmother find a simple new companion, but the search for a dog quickly turned into something much more painful. The 76-year-old had spent years raising pups and wanted to adopt again, only to be told that her age could stand in the way.
Andrea reached out to rescue groups in Peru after hearing her grandmother wanted a puppy, but the responses were disappointing. The family was left heartbroken when the adoption hopes were shut down, and it seemed like the answer would stay no for good.
Then Andrea spotted one more chance, and this time, it came with a surprise.
It's a good thing she didn't, because before long, Andrea came across an ad seeking a good home for a young puppy.
It's a good thing she didn't, because before long, Andrea came across an ad seeking a good home for a young puppy.

She contacted the man who posted it, and he said he would be happy for the elderly lady to have the pup.
"He agreed to give the puppy to us, knowing that my grandparents would take care of her and love her very much," Andrea said. "My dad went with my grandfather to pick her up."

The grandfather took the puppy, named Princesa, home to surprise his wife.
"I was very moved to see her reaction," Andrea said. "It was very emotional seeing her so happy and full of joy."
Andrea understands that adopting a puppy is a big decision. She knows that her grandparents may need help taking care of Princesa down the track, but that won't be an issue for their family.
Andrea said the moment meant everything to her family.
It also echoes the abandoned puppy story, where rescuers lifted a shoebox and found a heartbreaking reason she needed a home, rescued after being left behind.
Then came the really exciting part!

"Adopting changes your life," Andrea said.

After Andrea’s grandparents were chosen as Princesa’s caregivers, see how another family handled backlash for leaving a dog with grandparents, despite being criticized.
