Grandmother Was Given The Most Beautiful Gift After Being Told She Was 'Too Old' For A Dog
Throughout her life, Andrea Hijar's grandmother has enjoyed raising a number of pups. However, when the 76-year-old recently decided she would once again like to adopt a furry friend, she was told that her age might threaten her chances.
When Andrea heard that her grandma was hoping to adopt a new dog, she offered to help her find one. Andrea contacted several rescue groups in their local area in Peru, but she was surprised by the responses she received.
"In the end, they rejected her because of her age," Andrea said. "It made me sad—they are a very loving couple but were being denied something they were very excited about."
Andrea's grandma was heartbroken, but she eventually came to terms with the likelihood that she would never be able to have a dog again. However, Andrea wasn't ready to give up.
It's a good thing she didn't, because before long, Andrea came across an ad seeking a good home for a young puppy.

She contacted the man who posted it, and he said he would be happy for the elderly lady to have the pup.
"He agreed to give the puppy to us, knowing that my grandparents would take care of her and love her very much," Andrea said. "My dad went with my grandfather to pick her up."

Then came the really exciting part!

The grandfather took the puppy, named Princesa, home to surprise his wife.
"I was very moved to see her reaction," Andrea said. "It was very emotional seeing her so happy and full of joy."
Andrea understands that adopting a puppy is a big decision. She knows that her grandparents may need help taking care of Princesa down the track, but that won't be an issue for their family.
"Adopting changes your life," Andrea said.

"If a family is ready and has open arms to welcome the little one, then go ahead—that little animal will be eternally thankful for having a family."
