Shannon Lorio had a previous argument with her husband. To clear her mind, she decided to drive alone, as she usually does.
But this time, it was different. Events took a turn for the worse and changed Shannon's life forever.
While traversing the winding country road, she suddenly lost control of her car and crashed into a ditch by the roadside. She was thrown through the car's rear window.
Badly injured, Shannon found herself waking in and out of consciousness. She could hardly move.

Although Shannon wasn't able to keep Hero, he found his forever home under the care of Heidy Drawdy, a rescue trainer.
Shannon tried to find her savior as soon as she recovered, but he was gone. It took her quite some time before she saw him again and took him to the Humane Society.
Now, Hero is a certified search and rescue dog, which is something he specializes in.
