Homeless Man Shares His Life With His Forever Best Friend, A Dog He Met On The Streets
Marcus and Pickles have a bond that makes life on the streets look a little less impossible. Their story is simple on the surface, but it carries a lot of weight, because survival is one thing, and having a best friend through it all is another.
Set in Skid Row, Los Angeles, the pair have faced hard times together, and that shared struggle has shaped the way they live. Marcus has also found support from John, who grew close to him over time and helped make room for Pickles too.
What started as a rough life on the streets turned into something unexpectedly tender, and the small room they share says a lot about what matters most to Marcus.
One perfect example of that is this wholesome pair—Marcus and Pickles.

The two endure the hardships of living on the streets of Skid Row, Los Angeles. They both have a difficult past, and their longing for a better life has made them lean on one another.
A photographer, John Hwang, noticed the heartwarming pair and was immediately in awe of their unique and wholesome friendship. “He surely shares everything with him, and they go everywhere together,” John said.

That bond is what keeps them going.
Later on, John grew quite close to Marcus and even saw him as a brother. They often catch up with each other through text messages.
Fortunately, Marcus's homeless days have improved somewhat since he received a permit for government-subsidized housing in Skid Row. It was a tiny room with a shared bathroom, but it was definitely a lot better than spending his days and nights on the street.

Of course, Pickles wasn't left out. Marcus made sure that they would live together in the small room, and being together is all that matters to both of them.
After the pair settled into their new home, John decided to pay them a visit. Marcus was unaware of John's arrival, but when he came, the pair greeted him warmly.
“(Marcus) has this huge smile on his face and expressed to me, ‘I had this sense I had to return downstairs, and here you are.’ Then we tend to give each other a big hug,” John said.

Much of the space was set aside for Pickles, just as Marcus wanted.

Much to John's surprise, most of the space was actually dedicated to Pickles, as Marcus wished.
John already knew Marcus had a special relationship with the canine; however, he didn’t expect that the man would truly go to great lengths just to make his buddy happy.
“I noticed the mattress leaning against the wall unused,” he continued. “On the floor was the dog bed, a dog bowl for food and water, and a bunch of blankets strewn about.”
“The blankets and the dog bed were essentially one large pile. There was no dog area or personal space; it was simply one massive jumble of blankets and the dog bed.”

Marcus was perfectly fine sleeping on the floor. As long as he and his best buddy are together under the same roof, nothing else really matters to him.
“There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for him,” Marcus said.
