Few People Have Seen Something As Incredible As This 40-Ton Humpback Whale Leaping Majestically Out Of The Water
It's no secret that humpback whales are among the most enormous and majestic creatures in the ocean, and they are actually much larger than we often believe. They can grow up to 60 feet long and 18 feet wide, and while it may be intimidating to be close to them, seeing them from afar is one of the most wonderful experiences you can have in your lifetime.
Humpback whales are well-known for their melodic and haunting songs, making them one of the loudest animals in the world. Their songs can be heard up to 20 miles away, and each song may last for about 20 minutes; some even say they are the Mariah Careys of the whale world!
They aren't born knowing how to sing, but each whale has its own unique song. They are intelligent enough to form dialects within their populations!
Currently, it is believed that there are approximately 40,000 humpback whales living in the world, and it's fortunate that hunting them is now illegal, as they were once popular targets. However, some countries still continue this practice.
While you may see them as intimidating giants, they can also be quite playful. They love poking their heads out of the water's surface and slapping their tails around.
They also engage in a behavior called "breaching," where they leap majestically out of the water and perform amazing acrobatic twirls. Some people are fortunate enough to witness this phenomenon in real life.
That being said, take a look at this amazing footage of a humpback whale enjoying its breaching stint off the coast of South Africa!
The video has gone viral on social media, and for all the right reasons.
A scuba diver named Craig Capehart captured a magnificent whale on video while he was off the coast of Mbotyi, South Africa. By the looks of it, the adult whale appeared to weigh nearly 40 tons!
He later shared the incredible video on YouTube, where it gained millions of views. Craig mentioned that he was with three other divers aboard an inflatable motorboat, and while they were searching for sardines to track nearby predators, they saw a humpback whale breaching majestically in front of them.

Just look at it go!
“It seems that never before has a recording been made of an adult humpback whale leaping entirely out of the water! A very rare event, indeed,” said Craig in the video’s description.
“Dolphins and even great white sharks have been seen flying out of the water, but this is a first for an adult humpback whale!”
Craig and his mates were certainly lucky to see this beautiful creature enjoying itself in the water. It seemed to be relishing all those twists and turns!

Check out the video Craig captured below!
It is truly unique how much nature has in store, and it's both intimidating and impressive that our oceans can hold and give life to such amazing creatures as this humpback whale. It's fortunate that this was caught on video so that others can have a chance to see it too!
