Lifeguard Dogs Help Save A Life Of A Swimmer In Distress
Igor and Luna are not ordinary beach dogs, they are specially trained lifeguard dogs with the SICS Italian School of Rescue Dogs. When a 15-year-old swimmer was pulled away from shore by a strong current in Cilento, the two rescue dogs and their handlers rushed into action.
The girl had been caught in rough water just as high waves rolled in, and getting back on her own was no longer an option. Igor and Luna reached her, helped secure her to a rescue buoy, and guided her back to safety.
Their quick response was even caught on video, and the story shows just how important these four-legged rescuers can be. Read on.

Igor and Luna were simply magnificent. But this isn't the first time that dogs trained in nautical rescue have made all the difference.
The Italian School of Rescue Dogs is the largest global organization dedicated to the training of nautical rescue dogs and their handlers. In 25 years of activity, the SICS Canine Units have saved the lives of hundreds of people, making the association esteemed and appreciated by all the bodies that deal with safety at sea.
They’ve received the Nassyria International Peace Prize 2021 for their actions that day.
Igor and Luna are quite famous and have appeared on many TV shows. The latest one was dedicated to the daring rescue they performed in Capo Palinuro.
They’ve received the Nassyria International Peace Prize 2021 for their actions that day. The inscription says:
“For braving the stormy sea in Capo Palinuro and saving a 16-year-old girl last July 17.”
“An example of the real value that four-legged friends hold in society.”

Even though we are used to seeing dogs help people in all kinds of circumstances, nautical rescue dogs are not that common. However, they are very popular on the Adriatic coast.
Roughly 300 dogs are performing this type of action on the Italian and Croatian beaches. Water rescue dogs are trained to swim to the victim, who then grabs a handle on the top of the dog's life jacket and is towed to safety.
If the swimmer is unconscious, some dogs can flip the person onto their back so their head is out of the water, grip the upper arm, and bring them to shore.
