Loyal Pooch Doesn’t Want To Leave The Fire Hydrant Where His Owner Abandoned Him
Each day, thousands of pets in the U.S. are abandoned by their owners. Thousands more go missing.
Although it's difficult to know a stray dog's story just from one look at it, abandoned canines frequently share a heartbreaking trait, according to Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan's Legacy.
“The ones who are lost will roam and roam for months,” Hall says. “The ones who are dumped just stay there and wait.”
Thunder was an abandoned dog that had been seen for days waiting for his owner by the same fire hydrant. Neighbors called Hall to come and rescue the dog after several failed attempts to catch him.
Thunder was too terrified to accept assistance, not even when Hall showed up with her tools and decades of experience.
“He wanted to trust so badly,” Hall said. “He wanted to get close to me, but he was just too scared.” The poor pooch was still hoping his owners would come back for him.
“He would go across the street and look, and then go back to the fire hydrant,” Hall said. “It was heartbreaking to watch, we are sure.”
Thunder was still hesitant despite the humane trap that had been set for him with treats.
This is Thunder

Day gave way to night, but Hall wasn't about to give up on Thunder, so she devised a more alluring lure. She went to a nearby 7-Eleven, purchased a few hotdogs, and dropped them in the trap.
“I drove down the street to make him think I wasn’t there anymore, and when I came back, he was finally in the trap,” Hall said. “The hotdogs did the trick.”
He refused to leave the spot where his owner had abandoned him.

Hall was glad to finally have the dog in her care, but she noticed that Thunder was anxious and trying to return to the fire hydrant to wait for the family that had abandoned him.
“The little bit of love he got from his family, he remembered,” Hall said. “I just think he didn’t want to leave in case they came back.”
Nevertheless, Thunder was saved just in time. The greatest storm the city had experienced in years, according to Hall, hit as soon as she had him in her car. Thunder and his rescuer would have been caught in a violent downpour if his capture had taken even five minutes longer.
“We named him Thunder because we had the worst thunderstorm after I drove away,” Hall said. “It was so scary.”
But, thanks to the rescuer's cunningness (and some hotdogs) - he was rescued.

Now he is waiting to be adopted

We are sure he will find a family that will be loyal to him

The rescuers still don't know who abandoned Thunder and why, but Hall thinks it's more crucial to concentrate on the incredible new life this dog will have now that he has been saved.
“My favorite noise is when the trap door shuts,” Hall said. “Because it’s closing the past and marking a new future for the dog.”
Thunder is receiving the veterinary treatment he requires before being placed in a caring foster home, as is the case with all of Logan's Legacy's rescues. Thunder will soon be up for adoption, where he will finally meet a family who will be equally dedicated to him.
