Baby Monkey Treats Five Ducklings Like Family by Caring for Them, and It Is Heartwarming and Wonderful
Humans are wired to show empathy for living beings. It's a complex emotion that allows us to relate to what others are experiencing.
So, it can be surprising and heartwarming when we see animals demonstrating empathy for other species. For instance, a group of experts in Monterey Bay, California, observed some humpback whales keeping a pod of killer whales (orcas) at bay to protect a gray whale.
Since the prevailing rule of the animal kingdom is "survival of the fittest," these creatures will likely do what's beneficial for them. Even if scientists argue that the humpbacks may have mistaken the gray whale for one of their own, they cannot explain why they protected it for hours.
So, there must be more to it. Marine mammals are not the only ones capable of altruism.
We've also seen animals adopting others that don't belong to their kind. According to Unlikely Friendships author Jenny Holland, adoptions can easily be observed in domestic animals.
While it does happen in the wild, such instances are infrequent. Today, we're looking at the selflessness of not an adult, but a baby monkey.
The primate's actions were captured on camera for all of us to see and appreciate. Let's take a look.
Animal lovers will always enjoy watching the cooperation between two different species.

A great example is this baby monkey and his five duckling friends.
You don't usually see pairs like this. The monkey caring for the ducklings is simply the sweetest thing.

The unlikely friendship was captured on camera.
Millions have viewed the video of these sweet creatures. When you watch it, you'll fall in love instantly.

The video doesn't reveal how these creatures met each other.
But you can clearly see that a close bond has formed between the two species. The ducklings circle around the monkey, treating him as if he were their mother.
The baby monkey reciprocates by hugging the little ones.

Just looking at the snapshots will bring a smile to your face.

The monkey and the ducklings do many things together.
During mealtime, the baby monkey was fed with a bottle of milk while the ducklings ate rice. The latter gladly shared their meal with him.
The fun doesn't stop there. The monkey eventually played with his little friends.
Things get a bit complicated when the little monkey climbs a tree. He realizes that his lovely companions can't climb up there.
He rejoins them and hangs out with them for the rest of the day.
