Wildlife Photographer Builds A Special Bond With A Group Of Adorable Meerkats, Ends Up Falling In Love With Them
Wildlife photographers usually chase perfect distance, the kind where animals barely notice you. But one photographer, Kleer, seems to have skipped that whole rulebook and ended up with a front-row seat to a meerkat hangout.
He’s been interacting with native South African meerkats for a while, and the weird part is how little they care about his presence. Instead of spooking, they use him as a lookout spot, treating his body like a convenient high point to watch what they’re doing, nap, explore, and generally act adorable.
It’s the rare moment where “blending in” turns into “best seat in the burrow.”
A photographer appears to have made an unbreakable bond with a group of charming and entertaining meerkats

The fact that a human was invading their space didn't seem to bother the animals; instead, they used him as a high point from which to observe what they were doing more closely. Kleer has already interacted with native South African meerkats on multiple occasions.
The idea is to blend in with your environment so that you don’t scare off the animals

Kleer’s “invading their space” setup works because the meerkats just keep doing their thing, using him like a living viewing platform.
The photographer has shared a lot of content featuring him and his fuzzy meerkat friends over their time together, and it seems like they have gotten along well. As you can see from the photo, Kleer was fairly close to these amazing little creatures.

The sneaky photographer is finally surrounded by a large number of the fluffy creatures

When he shares the unscripted footage, you can see how close he got without triggering the usual meerkat panic.
This is oddly similar to a panther stealthily approaching an unaware man for affection.
He said it was a memorable experience and an incredible joy to get to know these little ones better. “As you can tell, I got quite close to these incredible little creatures,” Kleer wrote in an Instagram post.

The photographer described it as an event he won’t forget anytime soon

The whole vibe shifts when a large group finally surrounds him, like he’s joined the crew instead of crashed the scene.
He mentioned that they were the "cutest creatures on the planet" in another post. If not already, he has most likely convinced everyone on the internet.
The animals didn’t seem to care that a human invaded their territory

Kleer has had numerous encounters with indigenous South African meerkats

And after posting that they were the “cutest creatures on the planet,” he makes it sound less like a shoot and more like an unforgettable meet-and-greet.</p>
These are a selection of some of his gorgeous unscripted footage of the meerkats having fun, napping, exploring, and generally acting lovely. You can explore more of his fantastic work on his professional website.

Now he’s stuck wondering how he went from blending in to falling for the fluffiest neighbors on Earth.
