Abandoned Dog Tied to a Pole Cruelly by His Owners Was Rescued by a Kind Officer Who Changed His Life for the Better
Angela Laurella, a police officer, received a call about two dogs found tied to a pole. The pole they were tied to was located in Pompano, Florida, on a dead-end street.
Due to the absence of a security camera in that area, it was impossible to determine who left them there and when they were abandoned. However, the temperature was quite high, close to 100 degrees, so Officer Laurella had to act quickly.
The dog was tied extremely tightly to the pole. He was secured so close to the pole that it made it impossible for him to move.
“He was tied to a pole with a very short leash,” shared Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida.
“He was absolutely emaciated, dehydrated, with every bone and rib protruding.”

The dog reached his paw out to the officer and bowed his head for her to pat him.
“She just walked toward him very slowly and reached out her hand, and he kind of cowered and gave her his paw, as if to say, ‘Please help get me out of here,’” Roman said. They later named him Liam.

100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida were contacted by Officer Laurella regarding Liam's condition.
Despite being at full capacity, the rescue still took Liam in. He had to undergo numerous vet visits and received a proper diet.
Now, he has regained his strength and transformed into a healthy pocket bully weighing 17 pounds.
“He’s receiving so much love around the clock,” Roman said.
“He’s being fed every hour on the hour, so his body gets used to it. We have volunteers who are cooking batches of boiled chicken and rice, so he’s loving life right now.”
Liam still has a long road to recovery, but his resilience and the abundance of love surrounding him are keeping him going. “He loves everybody, and there’s not a mean bone in this dog’s body,” Roman shared.
“To me, that says it all, because after everything he’s endured, he’s still so grateful and forgiving.”

Liam's story is not an isolated one.
Many dogs have suffered the same fate at the hands of their owners in Florida. Roman expressed her hope that owners will soon realize there are many animal shelters in the area.
Instead of abandoning animals in such a cruel manner, they should surrender them at one of these shelters. Every creature deserves a second chance at a better life.
The resilience and high spirits that Liam displays are commendable.
Despite all he has been through, he remains very friendly. He loves to offer his paw to people and is eagerly waiting for a caring family to make him a part of theirs.
“I think humanity can definitely learn a thing or two from dogs like Liam,” Roman remarked. “It just restores your faith.”
