Rescue Puppies Became Friends With A Giant Turtle And It's Just So Wholesome
We're always curious to hear about unusual animal friendships. When you have so many different kinds of animals living together, you have to ask if they get along for the sake of getting along.
Like the heartwarming story of a group of orphaned puppies that found a friend and protection in an unexpected animal. Andrea, a member of 2nd Chances Rescue and a foster home, took in three puppies that had been abandoned in the PetSmart parking lot a few years ago.
"A man showed up with a case of beer and these four pups. He said he found them in his garden but was unable to capture their mother,” Andrea remembers.
She took the cubs in and raised them, although it took her some time to adjust to her new surroundings: “They were afraid,” Andrea explained.
Andrea also looked after another rescue pet, Goliath, an eighty-year-old sulcata turtle. For the most part, Goliath was alone.
The other dogs and puppies that passed through Andrea's home largely ignored the eighty-pound, lumbering giant. But these puppies were different.
Andrea quickly noticed a connection between her rescue dogs, the elderly tortoise, and the infant cubs, which at first appeared odd. One day, Andrea found one of the puppies was missing.
She was afraid, but she soon found the puppy in Goliath's stable. She discovered that all of the cubs enjoyed cuddling with their turtle companion, which gave the fearful puppies a sense of security.
Take a look at this story of an unlikely friendship that will melt your heart.
These four pups were brought to the 2nd Chances Rescue in Norco, CA. A man had found them in his garden but was unable to locate their mother.

The rescue is home to Goliath, an eighty-year-old sulcata turtle.

One day, Andrea, one of the shelter volunteers, couldn't find the pups. She was so afraid until she found them cuddling with the giant turtle.

It gave the fearful puppies a sense of security and a sense of closeness to Goliath. A classic win-win.

"They appeared to find some type of comfort with Goliath," Andrea observed. "I found them cuddling up to Goliath during the day." Not only did he help the cubs, but he also benefited from their company.
According to Andrea, the turtle craves attention and contact, but most canines "are afraid of him and ignore him."
“Obviously, the cubs had a different perspective, and the tortoise was relieved to have company: “I believe he was ecstatic, and I believe he adored it.”
“I believe he was ecstatic, and I believe he adored it,” Andrea says.

This is a truly unusual friendship. And even though we can’t really know why relationships like these form, especially between animals that are not well-known for their socializing needs, we can say that it is heartwarming to see because, whether we admit it or not, everyone needs someone.
Regardless of the reason, extraordinary friendships like this demonstrate that animals are far more emotionally complicated than many humans imagine.
