Ukrainian Police Find Puppy In Rubble And Return It To 77-Year-Old Owner After Pair Is Separated By Bombings
A rescued puppy, a destroyed home, and a reunion in the middle of war, this Ukrainian story has a rare moment of relief at its center.
After shelling hit a village in the Donetsk region, a 77-year-old man escaped with his life, but his small black dog was still trapped in the rubble. Police officers rushed to the scene, heard the puppy crying, and dug until they pulled the frightened animal free.
What happened next turned a heartbreaking scene into a small but powerful piece of good news. Read on.
A bit of good news comes through amidst the harrowing events of the Russo-Ukrainian war as a puppy is rescued and returned to its 77-year-old owner

After a 77-year-old man fortunately escaped the bombing of his home, he discovered that his best friend was missing, and emergency services in eastern Ukraine immediately wasted no time retrieving the pup. Soon, the video of the pup's retrieval began gaining more and more attention on the internet.
After the shelling of a small village in Donetsk, police wasted no time rushing to the scene in hopes of helping victims

Moments after the shelling ended, police quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. After hearing a timid squeal from below the rubble, a team of officers began digging.
The men were on their knees, their hands quickly picking away at the fallen bricks and debris, hoping to be quick enough to rescue what was buried underneath.
That sound was enough to send everyone scrambling.
They put all their energy into finding the little dog that was making noises from the rubble

After minutes of vigorous digging, the head of a small puppy soon emerged

After a few moments, the head of a tiny black dog emerged. The poor thing was gasping for air and was completely covered in dust.
Once the pup was fully out of the debris, they found that it was shaken but, more importantly, it was alive and well. The officers then took it into their arms and began to wipe away all the dust that had turned the black pup gray.
They wasted no time scooping the pup out of the rubble

Everyone was rejoicing at the find

The pup was clearly exhausted, but he was safe and sound

With a relieved smile on his face, an officer affectionately carried the pup to its awaiting owner and even stopped by the cameraman, who gave the pup some pets and called it ‘красавица’ or little beauty.
The police team shared the video on their Facebook page, stating that "every life is important."
That reunion was the part everyone had been waiting for.
The elderly man was filled with gratitude for the officers and thanked them for their quick arrival

The old man lost everything when his home was destroyed, and he was incredibly grateful to the police team for arriving quickly and bringing back his dear friend. While holding his beloved dog, he told them, “Thanks to the boys for doing everything quickly and promptly here. Thanks a lot to them!”
Both the old man and his pup were quickly provided with medical care. Although they were both bruised and shaken, they were alive and well.
This echoes a hero cop who rescued a drowning pup, then welcomed the survivor into his family.
They were both lucky to have survived the shelling with only a few bruises

Donetsk’s Police finished the statement with: “Russia’s war crime is documented. They will be held responsible before the law for every rocket and shell released on civilians.”
The shelling fell on homes in the village of Mikhailovka, Donetsk region, on April 12th, leaving many with destroyed homes and lost families.
The police and law enforcement officials have been crucial in helping and evacuating civilians

Police officers and law enforcement officials have been crucial during the war, as they have risked their lives multiple times to help people who have remained in their homes and those who are trying to evacuate. They also continue to distribute food to Ukrainians and assist anyone who has been hurt.
In another post from the Donetsk Regional Police, they stated, “Police officers are walking a dangerous path and have looked into the eyes of death several times. But they are not cowards.” Their dedication to the people and their bravery should truly be commended.
The incident is only one of many where houses were destroyed and many innocents were injured and killed

The horrors that have emerged from this war have revealed its true colors; however, with the few pieces of news like this that have surfaced, we can still see that there is plenty of humanity in this conflict.
Unfortunately, the war continues to rage on.
As reported by The Guardian, the most significant developments in the last few days include the regrouping of Russian forces in the eastern and southern parts of Ukraine, Zelenskiy calling on Europe for an oil embargo, war crime investigations in the northern parts of Ukraine where Russian soldiers have also retreated, and lastly, Sweden and Finland deciding whether to join NATO or not.
As the war continues, most of us are left watching for the next moves and outcomes

Russia has warned NATO that if Finland and Sweden join the military alliance, it will take measures in the Baltic, leading to the end of the nuclear-free status in the area. They might be empty threats; however, it's difficult not to be alarmed.
Strengthening the NATO alliance, however, has no direct impact on Russia unless, of course, it decides to attack a country that is part of the alliance first. Russia has a reputation for being a master of media manipulation; however, we'll leave the speculation to the experts.
In the face of adversaries like this, it's important to stay strong, humane, and show kindness to each life

People continue to send their love and support to the Ukrainian people

Each life is important

Their bravery is commendable

We hope it ends soon

No matter how small the creature, their lives matter

It means so much to someone who has lost so much

Everyone is glad for the reunion

The war is truly a horrendous thing, and sadly, for those of us who can do little about the situation, the most we can do is hope and pray for the best possible outcome and the end of the death and destruction of innocent lives.
We're thankful that there are still people out there who are humane enough to regard each life as equal. Hopefully, these kinds of people never disappear.
A small reunion, but a big reminder that kindness still survives.
