Brave Kids Come To The Rescue Of A Raccoon Who Was Trapped In A Hole
Raccoons have a way of turning up in the most unexpected places, and this time, one of them was in real trouble. What started as a walk in the woods near a Texas home quickly turned into a rescue effort that two kids would not walk away from.
Dray McMillon's sons, 14-year-old Daiton and 12-year-old Rylen, found an animal burrow that was not empty. Inside was a raccoon trapped in a hole, and the family had to figure out how to help before it was too late.
It is the kind of story that starts with curiosity and ends with a very relieved animal.
There was a raccoon trapped inside!
The boys' dad shared with Arianna Huffington:
“They spotted a raccoon about 2 to 3 feet down in the hole. Only its head and front legs were exposed. The boys immediately called me and told me what they had found.”

The family carefully used a shovel, as well as their hands, to try to dig the raccoon out.
Kind of like the Massachusetts family who rescued a stray puppy, only to discover it was a baby coyote.
The raccoon was very tired, but otherwise safe to be returned to its natural habitat.
“I could see the sense of accomplishment in my boys. They were very excited that the animal was released safely.”
Fortunately, the boys were there to save the raccoon! They should be very proud of themselves.

And, in honor of these kind kids, if you ever see an animal that needs rescuing, be sure to stop and help out!
Wait until you see the rescued raccoon’s sweet friendship with an orphaned fawn, Jasper and Hope.
