Rescued Owl Shows Gratitude Through Endless Hugs for Her Lifesaver
GiGi the great horned owl didn’t just survive a terrifying crash, she decided to celebrate her rescuer like he was the best thing that ever happened to her. After being brought to Mississippi’s Wild at Heart Rescue, the moment Douglas Pojeky, the “birds of prey whisperer,” got her comfortable again, she started doing something that feels almost unreal for a wild bird.
In late May, GiGi arrived with head trauma, likely from a car accident, and she was close to not making it. Douglas and the rescue team worked to get her back to perching, but the complicated part was what came next, because once GiGi recognized him, she greeted him enthusiastically, then literally tucked her head on his shoulder and wrapped her wings around him.
And honestly, it’s hard to look at that owl hug and not believe in the power of a second chance.
