Donkey Rescued From Floodwater Smiled All The Way Home, Knowing He Had Escaped An Untimely Death
Animal rescue is a crucial social service that assists in the protection of animals from potentially dangerous situations that often involve cruelty, abuse, and accidents. Many animals end up in shelters due to evictions, costly health issues, or other unavoidable circumstances.
Without the help of animal rescue groups, these lovely creatures would become even more endangered than they currently are. All kudos to Animal Heaven Animal Rescue (AHAR) for rescuing this donkey that inexplicably found himself in floodwater.
It so happened that a rowing club member in Ireland rescued a trapped donkey after a woman shared a post on the Animal Heaven Animal Rescue Facebook page requesting assistance. The animal had escaped from its stable in Killorglin, Co Kerry, after adverse weather damaged the gate.
The donkey was found stranded in a field the following morning, surrounded by deep floodwater after a nearby river overflowed its banks. Mike Fleming, a member of the Killorglin Rowing Club, and a team of animal shelter rescuers managed to wrap a cable and flotation aid around the donkey before attempting to pull him to shore.
According to a spokesperson for Animal Heaven Animal Rescue, the donkey, named Mike after his rescuer, is recovering at the animal shelter while his stable is being repaired. According to Suzanne Gibbons, the shelter’s founder, Mike was dried with towels, fed a warm mash, and was cozy and comfortable afterward.
Look at that contagious smile!

Shortly after, their vet team assessed him thoroughly and promptly started him on antibiotics to prevent pneumonia or any other form of infection that the cold floodwater might precipitate. They also discovered that he had a small amount of fluid in one of his lungs, but he gradually recovered.

Though it was not a funny situation for an animal (on four legs) that doesn’t know how to swim to find itself in floodwater, this donkey walked home with a grateful smile on his face, knowing that he had escaped an untimely death.

We are very happy about Mike’s rescue and his speedy recovery from the incident. His stable has been repaired, and he will have no concerns about flooding, even if it rains heavily again in the future.

Love the Donkeys. He is really smiling…

We live in a world where natural disasters like rainstorms or flooding can suddenly occur, sometimes with no prior warning. When this happens, animals become endangered, just like Mike was. But with the presence of efficient rescue organizations, these animals can be safe or even rescued in the worst scenarios.
We know you love the idea that Mike didn’t drown. Let us know your reactions in the comments section below.
